To compete in today’s business environment, organizations need to proactively update and customize their processes to stay nimble and reduce operational obstacles, while simultaneously reacting to identified problems and changes in their industry. When dealing with enterprise software that hasn’t been customized or optimized, this is no easy feat. SAP ERP users can face extremely challenging situations whenever the solution hasn’t been optimized for their specific usage.

This is where creative implementations of SAP GUI come in. Today’s user expects an intuitive and easy-to-learn GUI, access points across multiple platforms and devices, and a consistent user experience across all the various devices on which they manage their processes.

Most businesses don’t have the time or resources to devote to major overhauls or redevelopment. They need to deliver SAP ERP access to mobile devices and new platforms quickly, and they need the applications to be customized for their user’s needs and specifications. In addition, they need the interface to completely manage business processes and not just function as a single task.

With that in mind, here’s how organizations can roll out SAP ERP to their workforce while keeping the process simple.

Give Your Users What They Need and Nothing More

When you’re designing a GUI for a specific process, keep it as simple as possible. Only give the user the fields and options they need to get the job done – don’t complicate or clutter the screen with unnecessary steps or useless fields and buttons to click. Ideally, the process should be so simple that anyone can be trained on it in a matter of minutes.

Think Beyond the Desktop

Tying your employees to a desktop computer can needlessly extend the time it takes to create a process. Imagine that a warehouse employee has to take down inventory on a sheet of paper, then return to their desktop to manually key in the information. Now imagine they can enter data on a tablet as they go, or even scan palettes or items along the way, with the information immediately updating to the network. Popular devices include smartphones, tablets, and barcode readers.

Leverage the Capabilities of Your Tools

The tools you use to do business have built in tech that can be used to integrate with your SAP processes. Rather than snap selfies, phone cameras can be used to read barcodes. Most devices can save information when out of network range, to be synced to systems when the user returns to the area. Laptops and desktop computers with Excel and PDF programs can automatically generate scheduled reports. Point is, the tools you’re already using can make your job much easier through build in capabilities.

Measure Your Results

You know how long a simple process used to take. How have you improved efficiency once your solution has been implemented? Measure process time and compare it to prior performance so you can take the results to management.
