An Introduction to me,
Like Corey Adams I am an expat, but thankfully not an Aussie. I am an Englishman living in NZ. I have been working in the IT industry for about 16 years with 13 years focus on Business Intelligence. My work has taken me to many interesting places throughout Europe and New Zealand. I currently manage the Business Intelligence practice at Oxygen Business Solutions ( www.oxygenforbusiness.com). NZ is a wonderful place to live, play and raise a family. Our son Henry is 18 months old and was born here in Auckland.
Provide a fun fact about your country or yourself
I used to juggle 2 professions at the same time. As well as being a BI Professional I was for some time also a self-employed personal trainer and made an appearance on TV One’s Good Morning program, where I was interviewed in the studio and then conducted a fitness segment. I was even asked back a few weeks later. I received a phone call at 8:30am whilst ironing a shirt for work asking if I could come to the studio for 9:30. I declined out of loyalty and duty to my BI work!!! I never received another invite back sadly…
What was the most rewarding experience you have had (so far) and what made it so?
This would have to be 2 things…my marriage day and the birth of our son.
If you had a pet that could grant three wishes, what animal would it be, what would you name it, and why
Interesting question…something that doesn’t smell, is easy maintenance. A fish – they are supposed to relax you. Yes a fish. I would call it Geoff.
What do you imagine or predict is the future of your topic?
I might sound old fashioned but aside from the obvious stuff around mobility and big data, I would like to see a pure self-service BI environment.
What do you enjoy most in your work and why?
Consulting and business intelligence enable me to work within so many different industries and offer the opportunity to work with so many interesting people at all levels of an organisation. Variety and people make the job very satisfying.
What is your personal life dream?
It’s simple really - health and happiness for my family and me and to have choices in life.
Blog It Forward
I wish to Blog It Forward to 2 very talented people in the BI space - connor.dijst and nicole.seselj.
