Back in February, I published "Addressing Common Questions and Complaints About the New Platform," a What's New post acknowledging the common complaints and feedback we received since our migration at the beginning of the year. As I noted in that post, we have been compiling member feedback and prioritizing the requests for improvements and fixes.

While we haven't addressed everything yet, we did roll out many changes recently -- some of which address the biggest issues you've raised. You may have already noticed them! Regardless, I'll summarize here.

Views Are Back!

"Where are the views on my blog post?" If I had a nickel for every time I answered that question...well...I'd have a whole lot of nickels.

If you look at individual posts, you'll now see the view numbers next to an eye icon. For example, here's where you can see the views for the What's New post I mentioned in the introduction.

In addition to showing up on individual pages for blog posts, questions, discussions, TKBs, and events, views will also appear in the entries that appear on the various landing and feed pages throughout the SAP Community platform. For example, here's how a blog entry appeared in the Recent Activity feed on the Technology Blogs by SAP page.

Replies and Comments Easier to Read/Find

Members had complained that threads were difficult to read because replies and comments on questions and discussions collapsed by default, forcing users to expand the threads. Moreover, it wasn't easy to know how many comments/replies a question/discussion had gotten.

Now, these replies and comments expand by default automatically. Also, the post includes a counter indicating the total number of replies/comments.

More Details in Notifications

If you like receiving notifications via email (as I do), you may have found yourself wanting more information about the content that triggered the notification. Was it a blog post? A question? Something else?

Thanks to a new enhancement, notifications now indicate the "post type" at the top (e.g., blog, tkb, qanda (for a question), forum (for a discussion), occasion (for an event)). So you'll know exactly what to expect when clicking the link. And depending on the subscription type/where the content appears, the notification may include an SAP Managed Tag as well.

Create a Post to Create a Post (and More)

If you ever clicked the blue "Create a Post" button on the SAP Community landing page, you may have been surprised when you found yourself staring at a form to start a discussion.

Huh?

This was a default setting that would change as you provided more info, but still...confusing. Now, when you click that button, you'll get a page that reads "Create a Post"...as you would expect.

Then, depending on which board you choose beneath "Select Location," the title may change again. For example, if you pick a Q&A board, the title becomes "New Question."

Rotating Carousel

On the home page (and other entry points throughout the site), you'll find carousels containing information and links to key announcements, useful areas, and helpful resources.

In the example above, you can see that the carousel contains four items. Prior to the rollout of the recent enhancements, you'd have to click the arrows to see each item -- as the carousel was static. No more. Now, the carousel advances automatically, so even if you're just looking at the page casually, you won't miss any of the entries.

More to Come!

The enhancements above don't address everything brought up in the What's New post I mentioned earlier. For example, we're aware of the need for better sorting and feed options based upon tags, content type, and chronological order. The work doesn't stop here. We're investigating these additional improvements, and I'll be back with more updates as we introduce more enhancements to the site.
