If you’ve been a long-time member of SAP Community, you’ve probably accumulated several badges over the years. Even newer members may have earned the basic one-time badges available on our current platform – such as the badge for taking our tutorial and the various badges awarded for a first-time action (e.g., replying, leaving a kudo). Members haven’t, however, been able to receive ongoing recognition for repeated activity.

That will change starting tomorrow (Tuesday, August 19).

With our previous gamification system, we rewarded badges for posting quality content, providing helpful answers, and more – giving members the opportunity to earn multiple awards for frequent participation. (As an example, take a look at my list of badges – which pales compared to the accomplishments of veterans who have been around since the earliest days of our online community!) As of August 19, we’re bringing this recognition back, starting with progression badges based on the number of answers accepted as solutions.

badges.png

If you like answering questions (and you’re gifted at helping other members find solutions to their problems), then you’ve probably already received the first badge in this new series – by giving an answer that was accepted as a solution. Now you can earn an additional four badges, depending on the number of solutions you provided in Q&A.

We’ll be rewarding people retroactively, so depending on your Q&A activity and length of community membership (going back to previous community platforms), you may get one or more badges tomorrow.

Not sure of your numbers? You can find them in your community content area. After logging in, click on the person icon in the upper right of any community page, then select “My content.”

jerryjanda_1-1755518870332.png

You’ll see your total number of answers in the Private Stats section at the bottom of your “My content” area.

jerryjanda_2-1755518870335.png

But remember: an answer is not a solution. An answer becomes a solution when someone accepts it as the correct answer to a question. You’ll find your total number of solutions in the gray box at the top of your “My content” page.

jerryjanda_3-1755518870339.png

So in this example, this member should expect to get all four of the new solutions badges. With 93 solutions, he has achieved the necessary criteria for the second badge (2 solutions), third badge (5 solutions), fourth badge (25 solutions), and the fifth and final badge in this progression series (50 solutions). (I sure hope he’s reading this, so he won’t wonder what’s going on when he sees four badge notifications tomorrow.)

If you are expecting badges, and you're not seeing them yet, try logging out and in again. That should update the badge list in your “My content” page.

With this new badge set, SAP Community is once again acknowledging the awesome members who regularly contribute quality content. And we’re not stopping here! In the near future, we plan to introduce other progression sets. We don’t want to give away too much information just yet – we thought it would be fun to keep things a surprise – but we do encourage you to get more active, as you may find yourself receiving bigger badge payoffs very soon.

Make sure to monitor the What’s New section for announcements about the new progression badge sets as they become available. In the meantime, if you frequently participate in the community, keep up the good work. Or if you’re more of a lurker, consider jumping in and building up the numbers necessary for badges. Depending on what you do (and what you’ve done), you may find yourself the recipient of several shiny new badges as we extend the ways in which we show appreciation for those who make our community a better place!

OK, one hint: We aren’t just going to reward the members active in Q&A, so if answering questions isn’t your thing, you can still gain badges for other activities. Experiment with meaningful contributions, show your support for other members, and see what happens!

Hi Jerry! Thanks for the updates.

I have a few questions:

1) For users using an universal account who used to have many different profiles in the SAP Community in the past, how are you collecting this number? Will it sum the numbers on all accounts? (more on that here Community Feedback List - Accuracy of Profile info... - SAP Community)

2) Are there any actions being taken to reduce the number of questions which are not marked as answered? I feel most of the questions are done by recently created users and most of them just do not care about flagging their question as solved so this current system is only rewarding a small part of people engaging in the Q&A. Do you have some numbers to share about it such as the % of questions with at least one answer without being marked as solution?

3) Who exactly can set a question as solved apart from the person who asked the question?

Hey @jerryjanda,

Great to see gamification back in the Community somehow.

Initially, I thought that it was about answers. But reading a bit more carefully, I found that it is about accepted solutions that make much more sense.

Looking forward to seeing guys helping each other even more.

@jerryjanda

If this is retrospective, I should have all 5 badges but I only see 1. My stats are

Hello @Mahmoud__Zeidan good morning, how are you?

To answer your question, I believe you can’t add this type of certificate to the community profile, only community badges. Here, you earn badges as you learn! Complete a tutorial mission, evaluate your progress, create apps, answer all the questions, and earn badges.

As for certificates, you can find them both in the “Certifications” tab in the Learning Hub and in your Credly profile. And you can also add them to your LinkedIn profile.

Are these badges we hold visible for others to see automatically in the SAP community, or is some action required by the holder?

Hi, @FabioPagoti:

In answer to your questions:

1) If users merged their accounts when we encouraged them to do so, then the merged account should reflect all of their numbers. If they didn't, then the accounts will be treated independently toward the progression count.

2) I don't have any numbers to share, but I can point to several resources where we urge members to express their gratitude and accept correct answers as solutions. For example: Step 9 of our tutorial and my post about asking and answering questions. We’re always looking for new ways to educate members about proper Q&A etiquette, and we’ll continue to encourage members to show their appreciation for those who have helped them in the community.

3) Please see Step 9 of our tutorial. It indicates who has the rights to accept solutions – but also explains why it’s always best for the original poster to indicate which answer is correct.

Kind regards,

--Jerry

Hi, @Wallace:

No, no additional action is required. If your contributions entitle you to the badges, you'll receive them automatically.

Kind regards,

It's Very Clear Now

Thanks for the update @jerryjanda !

Based on that I recommend checking Community Feedback List - Accuracy of Profile info... - SAP Community. It seems I have earned the 50 answers accepted as solutions badge (despite being gray for some reason under my profile) but this does not match with the numbers on the profile itself.

FabioPagoti_0-1755731406625.png

FabioPagoti_1-1755731471052.png

However when I check the following numbers on the Private Stats there is no "30", which is the number under solutions:

  • Questions Posted
  • Q&A Replies Posted
  • Answers Posted
  • Q&A Comments Posted

Am I missing something? Here is my understanding:

  • Q&A Replies Posted = replies not necessary marked as accepted/solved
  • Answers Posted = replies on Q&A marked as accepted/solved

I have way more "Answers posted" than my profile suggests - enough to get the 50 answers badge.

Thanks again!

Hi,

Thanks @PauloRodriguess , very great and detailed answer.

I'm also interested in the "badges" related to the developer profile. In fact, the learning experience in this "section" of "SAP Learning Journey" seems not to be valuated enough, unfortunately.
Is there something planned in to roadmap @jerryjanda ?
Thank you
Amaury
