A few years ago I used to feel intimidated by other colleagues posting on the SAP Community and on LinkedIn -most of them are now my friends-, Reading their headlines and posts and thinking "How do these people know that much about SAP, ABAP, etcetera?" and "Where do these people find time to post?". 🤔
The truth is that I was so disconnected from the SAP Community that almost everything seemed to me new and "out of my league", even more considering that in those days I was stuck in the "old and reliable" ECC projects. Not by choice of course! ðŸ¤
The things started to change a little when I got my first real project opportunity to work on an S/4HANA project, but it wasn't enough yet, I was still feeling left behind. So, I started little by little to pay more attention to the SAP Community and SAP related content on LinkedIn and other SAP official social media accounts, watching the Developer News while Googling what they were talking about.
That made me realize two things:
I started on LinkedIn with "silly posts" about how SAP was related to companies, series, movies and bands I liked. Then going a little technical talking about what I thought it was "common knowledge" like SE16H, SM20, etcetera. I realized one more thing, that knowledge wasn't as common as I thought... Which takes us here, do we really need to be an eminence or re-invent the wheel to start posting on SAP Community? The short answer is NO!
Paraphrasing Chef Gusteau in Ratatouille "Anybody can write/post". So, the next time you get the impostor syndrome and starting to feel like George McFly ("What if they told me I was no good?") just remember my story and think: "If that average and random ABAPer made it, I can make it too!".
Believe me, there is a lot of fun in posting, sharing knowledge and engaging with the SAP Community -in all platforms and social media networks-. I hope this post accomplish its mission of encouraging you to start posting now.
PS: If you start posting, please send me a message, I'd love to be one of the first reading you!
