Until recently, eLearning were kept behind a user login. While there were many good reasons for this, it was regarded by many as being an annoying extra step that discouraged people from viewing and sharing their contnet on SCN. Whether this was true our not is still a matter of occasional debate: but one thing that is for sure is that the evolving social landscape on the web really makes it hard to keep eLearnings locked behind a login!
In the age of YouTube, MySpace and all the various ways people can suggest information (Facebook, Twitter, Digg, etc.) really demands an open, free flow of content to work effectively. More and more people are accessing SCN content through search engines and , more importantly, via suggestions from their peers on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter: keeping eLearnings behind a login makes it impossible to share them this way.
So, we removed the login requirement.
From now on, all SCN eLearnings can be opened freely just like our articles and presentations. This will make it easier for you to share these valuable and enriching resources from places beyond SCN: you'll be able to Tweet about them and post them on FaceBook without worrying about whether or not people will be discouraged (or annoyed) by the login.
I hope this also encourages you to submit your demos, podcasts and videos for sharing on SCN too.
