Have you noticed you've been spending less time on social media lately? Tweetstream clogged? MySpace feeds drying up? And does anyone actually use Google Plus?

If you're interested in hearing more about how social media is changing - and how to still participate in the conversations rather than just getting broadcast to - please catch the replay which is now available.

Craig was actually unable to join us due to a timezone snafu, but the rest of the panelists (along with moderator mark.finnern) did a great job outlining what makes social media special and how to make the most out of it. Highlights include:

  • The importance (and risks) of ruthlessly pruning the list of people you follow.
  • The risk of not being able to interact with Twitter if you are an organization in crisis.
  • The big fail of Twitter's recent API ridiculousness.
  • The challenges (and benefits) or participating from half-way round the world.
  • The Maggie Fox, who - judging strictly by the sheer number of questions directed at her - earned herself some new fans.

If you want to visit some of the links discussed during the webinar, they are, in no particular order...

And again, thanks to all of our panelists.

  • Maggie Fox is the founder, CEO and Chief Marketing Officer of Social Media Group, established in 2006 and one of the world’s most highly respected independent agencies helping business navigate the socially engaged Web. SMG has helped some of the best-known brands in Europe and North America get social, including Ford Motor Company, SAP, RBC, 3M and Thomson Reuters, and Maggie is frequently asked to speak to the press and conference audiences about important trends in social business.
  • Graham Robinson has worked in the Australian IT industry for over 30 years - he is very old. Social media has helped Graham raise his professional and personal profile, expand it across the globe, and participate in an extensive professional network that enhances both his skills and his value to his customers. He blogs when "I have something to say", tweets in bursts, and dabbles here and there.
  • Craig Cmehil (in spirit) entered the Social Media world at an early stage and since 2005 has pioneered several activities within SAP and the SAP communities from Twitter, to Second Life, to Facebook and more. He considers one of his most important activities to be his "Path to Recognition" and the various activities around the topic. He's an author, blogger, podcaster and video caster as well as a founding member of the Enterprise Geeks and a proud member of the Enterprise Irregulars. Having at some point "tried them all" it's best to find out more about Craig at his About Me profile.
  • Jon Reed has been involved in the SAP marketplace since 1995 and on Twitter since 2008, when Dennis Howlett convinced him that his life was lacking without it. Despite his cynicism about "social business," in an apparent paradox, Jon continues to provide social strategy advice to his own clients. As an Enterprise Irregular and purveyor of multi-media content, Jon argues that "social" is near-worthless without some potent underlying content. Jon can be found on Twitter, Google +, and LinkedIn. His rocky relationship with Facebook is well-chronicled - on Twitter.
  • Jamie Oswald has worked with SAP BusinessObjects solutions for over ten years but started leveraging social media to be better at it in 2009 (all thoughts are his own). Once referred to as a "potential PR disaster", Jamie tweets, blogs, and podcasts (and "maintains" Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn accounts).

Thanks for joining us for various rants and ramblings, and more importantly finding out how to get more out of your time online.

This session was held on Monday, September 17th, 2012 4:00 PM-5:00 PM. Eastern Standard Time
