Thanks a bunch to laure.cetin for blogging it forward to me so I can feed some ego and talk all about myself 😉
About Me
I joined SCN team as an intern early this year. That was also when I was first introduced to SCN. Since joining in I’ve been working closely with laure.cetin and oddss on the recently launched gamification project on SCN. Hope you like it! My internship may end within the year, but I believe I will become a community member for a much longer time for the great people and content here.
I go by Sean in any English speaking environment, while the name on my passport is Yuebin. Yes, I’m Chinese, and for those who can display Chinese characters on your computer, it’s 玥玢. Super rare characters you won’t find another soul on the planet with that name and even Chinese people have hard times reading it.
Fun Fact
I picked my English name because I have this T-shirt from Sean John I wore every time I played basketball. People started to recognize me by the clothes and I just followed their will. I have had it for 9 years and still wear it from time to time although the neckline is all wrinkled.
Hometown
I’m now in Palo Alto/Mountain View, CA, USA. But the place I call home is the one shown in the picture. I was born and raised in Shanghai. I almost never left that place for the first 23 years of my life until last summer I jumped on 3-stop flight and came to the U.S. The picture shows the skyline of the city. I was kind of tired of the view, but it’s the view that comes to the top of my mind when I think of my hometown. I guess landmarks are landmarks for a reason… The place is modern, busy, crowded, and still pretty different from big cities here such as San Francisco. I lived in an apartment on the 18th floor, just to give an idea...
I also sometimes say I’m from Indiana. I’m taking a graduate program in Indiana University Bloomington. So it’s kind of my first home in U.S., and first home by myself! I luckily missed the coldness but enjoyed the great view of snow in the town during the last winter. Small town, great basketball team. Go Hoosiers!
If you could be a super hero (or are in your spare time) who would you be?
My avatar answers the question for me. Well, a lot of respect to Bruce Wayne as well.
Which 5 things do you absolutely want to achieve in life
Have my own business
Live in Japan
Play basketball when I’m 50
Play video games (or any kind of high tech games by then) when I’m 60
Be a great cook/nutritionist
What was the most fun project you ever participated in and why?
Gamification. No sweet-talking. I have to say I’m pretty new in the work force and haven’t been in nearly as many project as most of you do, so this project I’m on right now is kind of an easy winner. But I still believe the agility, devotion as well as result we had in the project were impressive. I learned so much from this open-minded and self-driven team.
Name the person who affected you most in your career/way of thinking and why
It’s hard the name THE person, since I kind of feel I’m affected more by environment than a particular person. If I have to name one, it would be Prof. Randy Pausch from Carnegie Mellon University. I didn’t have the fortune to be a student of his, but thanks to modern technology, his last lecture was the most inspiring speech I’ve listened to in the last several years. And I believe it affected a couple of big decisions at the critical stage of my life.
If you were not in your current position, what/where would you be and why?
I would be a programmer and a freelancer. So I can work and travel the world at the same time. To me travelling should be really living a local life for a while than just going to tourist sites.
If you were given by your work a full day every week to do whatever you feel like, what would it be?
Learning technology and making my own product
Blogging it forward:
I didn’t get consent from these two gentlemen. I hope they don’t mind:
oliver – surprised to see the architect of the site doesn’t have one.
jens.glander – I want to thank Jens again for being extremely helpful in the developer center. But maybe you want pay more attention to gamification. Your work worth more badges than you have;)
and my questions to them would be:
- If you could be a super hero (or are in your spare time) who would you be?
- What do you imagine or predict is the future of your topic? (Mobile, Cloud etc., be creative be daring, be entertaining)
- What was the most fun project you ever participated in and why?
- If you were not in your current position, what/where would you be and why?

Btw, moshe.naveh I think the request table is not readable.
