I have been thinking about writing the blog. Pedro Freitas, who works with me here in SAP Labs Latin America, took the initiative to be the first person in our team to do it. So I will continue blogging it forward. As Pedro already provided a lot of information about our country, I will try to provide more information about São Leopoldo, my hometown (and where SAP Labs Latin America is located).

Well, here we go.

A little bit of myself

My name is Fernando Geremia Bassuino. I don’t know why but people get used very quickly to calling me by my surname. Here in SAP, I am Bassuino. Not by choice.

Probably, most of the people who know me don’t know I have this “middle” name. Well, it has also a big importance to me. Originally, mom’s family name (Geremia) is from Italy. My grandparents came from Italy in 1956 to try a better life here. My mom was born in Guaporé, a city not so far from São Leopoldo. She met my dad who already lived in São Leopoldo. After some time, they gave life to the child you see highlighted in the picture below:

The only girl in the picture is my sister. She’s 5 years older than me. The other ones are my cousins.

I will become 29 in the next October and my sister will be…well, you can do the math lol. She won’t be happy talking about age but I think our spirits are from an 18 year old kids. Here is a picture of us:

I graduated in high school back in 2006 as an electrician technician. I worked a few years in the field and decided to learn English.

Best way to do it? Going overseas.

Destiny? Australia.

I lived in Australia for one year. This amazing experience provided me the English language and friends for life. I spent the whole year working in restaurants, wineries and even in the country side picking apples (hardest job I have ever done in my life). I bet your first thought was…that is easy. I learned it wasn’t…in the hard way.

After one year in the land of kangaroos, I got back to Brazil in the pursuit of my undergraduate diploma. I started the undergraduate studies and joined SAP both in 2010. I have started my career in GRC on Access control side. I’ve decided to change and it’s been a year that I am working with Process Control. It’s been almost 4 years working for SAP now and I am really glad about it.

Fun fact about myself (it is more things that I enjoy):

I am a person who has a lot of hobbies. Because of that, I will enumerate:

  1. Skate
  2. Beer (I have a collection of beer bottle lids)
  3. Instruments (guitar, bass, trumpet)
  4. Soccer (it is sacred, every Monday night)
  5. PlayStation 3 Pro Evolution Soccer (against maicon.wallauer. He always lose

Not necessarily in the same order.

About São Leopoldo (Hometown):

The city was colonized by the Germans. I will not stick to the history of the place as you simply can get in on the web. I will show some pictures of the city as it is much more interesting.

Local soccer team

Sport Club Aimoré was founded in March 26th of 1936. He obtained access to the first soccer division of the local Championship after more than 20 years.

Questions:

  • Which 5 things do you absolutely want to achieve in life?

I believe I want to have my own house in the country side, a dog and travel a lot, know different people and of course, have a successful career.

  • If you were given by your work a full day every week to do whatever you feellike, what would it be?

I would spend the day thinking how lucky I am.

  • If you were not in your current position, what/where would you be and why?

I was always interested in health area. Probably, I would work with physical education.

...and if it is a colleague from North America, maybe you could explain to us why a game played with your hands got called football. Maybe someday that will change and           it will have a new name, football will be used for soccer as in the rest of the world and the word soccer will die

         Cannot answer that

I would like to BIF to:

maicon.wallauer

diego.fischer

It would be nice if they can answer the following questions:

  1. If you had to live in another country, what would it be?
  2. If you had the chance to be famous, who’d you like to be?

This is it. I hope you enjoyed my blog it forward and I am excited to see yours.
