My colleague marcusm, has asked me to participate in the "Blog It Forward" challenge.  Perhaps this will help to improve the sustainable relationship aspect of networking through social media!

I am currently a Solution Engineer for Sustainability solutions with SAP -- living near Kennett Sq, PA.  My role is built on the principle that solving a problem requires changing something, and it is my job to gather information from a customer, help to determine what the real, underlying problem is, and then engineer (or 'map out') a solution to help them achieve their goals.  SAP's solutions are so broad and deep (more so every day) that I have an immense set of tools as my disposal and previous work as a business analyst and an SAP EHS consultant gives me 15 years of experience and roughly 30 customer projects to draw from; making my job much easier!  I am originally from Maine, met my German wife while studying in Sweden, love sports, music (playing instruments), cars (driving), and spending time with my wife and 3 boys.

My childhood home in Palmyra, Maine - yes, nothing but woods for miles!

What was your dream job as a kid?

When I was a kid (including currently!) I always wanted to be a helicopter pilot for the Coast Guard.  I'm not exactly sure how I came to that conclusion originally, but it was a desire that stuck with me all the way through college.  I had applied for the Coast Guard Academy but decided to go to the University of Delaware instead.  I do love my job, but I always have that thought it the back of my head that I would have really loved to be a helicopter pilot.  I have great respect for the Coast Guard (though most other military branches will put them down) under the idea that very few (if any) other jobs yield the same satisfaction and sense of accomplishment as spending your time rescuing people while living by the water and working outside (for the most part).

What is your favorite place in the world?

I have so many favorite places in the world from the west coast of Sweden where my wife and I spent many wonderful weeks to an little island in Croatia where I asked her to marry me on a sailing trip!  However, one of my favorite places has to be almost anywhere in the German Erzgebirge (airt-skeh-berg-eh) at Christmas time.  This is truly 'Christmas village" - the land where Nutcrackers, Smoking men, and all kinds of beautiful, wooden Christmas decorations are made.  The landscape is amazing at any time of year, but Christmas means an especially beautiful warm, rich countryside with quaint villages all lit up in the most tasteful, charming way imaginable.

What was the most fun project you ever participated in and why?

When I worked for the Pew Charitable Trusts we were in the process of changing our administrative concept to lower costs for grantee's.  As part of that initiative I got to work on the IT side of opening a number of new offices (networks, servers, telephony, media equipment...etc.).  Some of the best non-partisan, non-affiliated research and philanthropy has come out of those organizations (you may have heard of the Pew Research Center during this and the last several elections?) and it was great being part of the effort to get them up and running!

If you could meet any living person on earth, who would it be and why?

Anyliving person is a tough question - there are so many.  But, I'd have to say one person I find pretty fascinating is Elon Musk (@elonmusk).  Taking on innovative and entrepreneurial challenge after challenge and having some amazing successes to show for it, I am convinced that his success mostly has to do with hard work, but it would be fun to chat with him about his motivations for what he does and about how he sees the future.  Taking on the Internet, space, and the automotive world while focusing on sustainability and the 'next' frontier are some pretty high-demand challenges.  ...not to mention Philanthropy!

Aside from all that, we share some geographic and family history

In keeping the BIF going, I am asking the following questions:

Time to blog on!   domingo.pacheco,

1.     What was your dream job as a kid?

2.     What is your favorite place in the world?

3.     What was the most fun project you ever participated in and why?

4.     If you could meet any living person on earth, who would it be and why?
