One of the things I love most about the Member of the Month series is discovering someone who does a great deal of awesome work within the community, yet might not be a familiar name to members. These contributors are the unsung heroes of SAP Community, and I truly enjoy giving them the spotlight.

akhilesh.upadhyay, our Member of the Month for June 2017, is a perfect example. He may not have an extensive network, but he has more than 150 answers to his credit since SAP Community launched last October. And he is one of the most approachable members I've ever met. I think his profile description says it all: "Have issues in SAP UI5/Fiori app development? No problem! Let's get it resolved!"

Clearly, Akhilesh is someone who wants to help -- and that's exactly the type of attitude we so often see in Member of the Month.

Congratulations, Akhilesh! How does it feel to be Member of the Month for June?

Thanks, Jerry. I am really thrilled to receive this honor. It means a lot to me.

Akhilesh Upadhyay -- on the job and in the community

According to your profile, you're part of Accenture Services in India. Can you tell me a little bit about your position there and what you do?

I am a team lead there and responsible for providing the design, solution, effort estimate, and development of the SAP UI5/Fiori project.

I joined Accenture in the middle of the year 2015 as a Senior Analyst and work on end-to-end SAP UI5/ Fiori app development. Apart from this I am also a part of the people development activities, such as providing trainings on SAP UI5/Fiori, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML5, et cetera, and helping to resolve their issues.

I have been recognized for my good work and dedication with a couple of recognition programs in Accenture.

I mentioned your profile description in the introduction to the interview, but I think it's worth repeating -- because it's one of the best I've ever seen: "Have issues in SAP UI5/Fiori app development? No problem! Let's get it resolved!" Why did you decide to give that invitation to the SAP Community?

I really like to resolve SAP UI5 and Fiori issues, and it helps me to get more expertise on front-end development. Actually it’s my passion to get challenges on SAP UI5/Fiori app development and get them resolved.

I keep asking and helping my colleagues on issues related to a few front-end technologies such as UI5/Fiori, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, CSS, ASP.Net, C#, and so on, even after the office time.

I have put this profile summary just because sometimes people didn’t get the response to their question or issue on time and they feel they are wasting time or suffering a lot, so I think this line motivates them to feel free to post their questions on community and also get in touch with me on other social profiles provided like LinkedIn. There also they can drop me a message to get the quick response. Even when I get the messages on LinkedIn, I respond to them as per my availability.

Akhilesh enjoys spending time with his children (eight-year-old daughter and four-year-old son)

So based on that profile description and your answers, it's fairly obvious you focus your energies on SAP UI5 and Fiori. How did you become an expert in these technologies?

I started my career in Microsoft technologies .Net Framework and ASP.Net in 2010 and was part of the over four end-to-end web applications development till Oct 2013. I got rewarded with STAR (Special Thanks And Recognition) for a couple of projects.

Since I was interested with client side scripting languages and responsive web applications design, I got to know about SAP UI5 and Fiori and got a chance to work with Capgemini as a consultant in 2013. I attended a few sessions on SAP UI5/Fiori and SAP NW Gateway. Since I was pretty much familiar with JavaScript and jQuery, I didn’t have difficulties adopting the SAP UI5 concepts.

Also, SCN played one of the important roles to help me to learn SAP UI5. In my initial days I used to go through all the UI5 questions and get to know about issues and their solutions. If I found any questions unanswered and interesting, I tried to get them resolved for myself along with my project work.

After a short period of time, I got confidence on SAP UI5 and Fiori. I even conducted the trainings for juniors, and I have been part of five end-to-end SAP UI5 applications and customized over ten standard Fiori applications. In one of the projects, I got rewarded with STAR of the project in Capgemini also.

As I said earlier, you have answered more than 150 questions...and that's just since the launch of the new platform. How many questions would you estimate that you've answered altogether since joining the community?

I started providing answers since last quarter of the year 2015, so I guess around 250 I have answered.

Since you answer questions nearly every day -- even several times a day sometimes! -- what's your daily routine like? I'm guessing you have worked SAP Community into your regular work schedule?

Yes, exactly! It became my habit to start my day by watching notifications and new questions in SAP Community, and whenever I get time to use and visit SAP Community.

An outing with the kids to a wax museum (that's Mr. Bean in the back, by the way...not Akhilesh)

That's pretty much it for the professional questions. Let's switch to some fun stuff. What do you like to do outside of work? Have any hobbies or other activities you enjoy?

I spend time with my family whenever possible. I love to spend time with my kids -- an eight-year-old daughter and four-year-old son -- in the park and beach, and to play cricket and badminton on weekends. And, yes, a beer party on Friday night with friends off course!

Of course. Come to think of it, Koen Hesters, the Member of the Month for May, also talked about beer in my interview with him. I'm noticing a pattern!

Anyway, thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to chat with me, Akhilesh. And thanks for your enthusiasm and your support -- in and out of the community. Member of the Month is a recognition well deserved for you!
