Workspace limitations

Hi Experts,

Trying out the new SAC workspace feature (new since wave 2021.15) and it seems I'm running into some limitations.
Help documentation on workspace is also not very detailed.

• Can we import/export objects from and to a workspace?
  Because we only see the 'Public' file directory from the My Files area
• Can we transport objects through content network from a workspace?
  Because we only see the 'Public' and 'System' file directory from the My Files area
• Can we move objects (e.g. using 'Move To') from Public Files into a workspace, or one workspace to another?
  Because this seems impossible., and all the files in a workspace should be created manually in that workspace.

Can someone confirm these are indeed still product limitations?

We are evaluating workspace function for past couple of weeks now. I must say this functionality is not yet close to what DWC is offering. May be in coming iterations it will catch up. First release always remains lackluster. Please find my comments below:

• Can we import/export objects from and to a workspace?Not supported. For now import/ export take public route by default.

• Can we transport objects through content network from a workspace? Again public route restriction.

• Can we move objects (e.g. using 'Move To') from Public Files into a workspace, or one workspace to another? Not yet supported. But I think this should be included soon. As this is the least workspace should be able to perform.

Hi Jef,

Thanks for your question. We indeed have this limitation right now where we don't support direct movement of content from Workspaces. It has to be done by moving content to public folder. Please provide your feedback when you have tried it out. We would be updating the help documentation with these.

Workspace in SAC seems fully focused on partitioning only the Files Area, and not other functionality, is that correct?
Is there a list of (known) workspace limitations? And a view on future / end-state use cases?

Hi Jef, that's right. Workspaces is only for Files area. ACN transport is the only limitation right now. Roadmap https://roadmaps.sap.com/board?range=FIRST-LAST&PRODUCT=67838200100800006884 would be the best way to keep updated on the future plans. Hi 537671, I've tested Workspaces, and to be honest, without export, it is useless for the enterprise customers.

Hi, yes, the feature is being released on QRC1. It's already available in Fast track tenants.

1) Is there a comprehensive list on all workspace limitations? (for example: Data analyzer is not supported on models from a workspace, users can't move any existing content to a workspace etc..)

2) As you have asked, I've logged a few enhancement requests on workspaces, hope they will be picked up soon?

3) Also, there's now other functionality in SAC being labelled as 'workspaces', which could become very confusing:

This is not a limitation of Workspaces but rather Data Analyzer not supporting this workflow as noted in this FBA note here: https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/notes/3102823. You might want to raise an Influence request for this support.

Yes. With the QRC 4 release, you would see the Help section updated with the feature. We would also be releasing a blog with demo video soon.
