In the recent episode of "SAP likes changing product name", SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway aka CIG has been the latest victime.
According to SAP, we should call it now: SAP Integration Suite, managed gateway for spend management and SAP Business Network.
Is really someone there thinking that name make sense for such user friendly app that was CIG?
The cool think about CIG was it was unique, you see it you know straight what is it, but like it was not already messy by confusing people with acronyms and all names, here is another confusion about Cloud Integration.
For instance, Ariba has: Cloud Integration CI9, which they are retiring this year, and then they re-brand CIG to Integration Suite...see the confusion already, not talking even about the Cloud Integration Suite on top of which CIG is built.
Thank you SAP with your seamless user experience that you are preaching everywhere. I believe, I am not the only one to dislike this one...unless someone clearly explain me what is the strategy behind this name.
Request clarification before answering.
Hi Yacouba
I just cannot stop but use the line " Whats in a name ..:?"
SAP does officially mention the change in name here
I believe it is still much better as the functionality is still the same, SAP sometimes changes name and functionality from the previous name also changes but this is pretty much just a name change
" This change is effective from the SAP Ariba 2302 release and it does not affect the functionality of SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway and Ariba Network."
I believe the strategy is to make this part of a bigger Integration Suite family which also has CPI, APIs , event Mesh , integration advisor etc.
