what's the difference between edit_mask and convexit in alv Field Catalog?

Hi,

I'm a new abap developer, I use alv to develop reports.

There are two ways to use the Conversion Exit:

1. Use edit_mask

edit_mask = '==ALPHA'

2. Use convexit

convexit = 'ALPHA'

What is the difference between the two?

If edit_mask can achieve the function, then isn't convexit redundant?

An edit mask can be an actual edit mask such as '_,__.___',___' but it also allow use an existing conversion exit, using prefix '=='
