Hi experts!
Can you advise? When I click on the CRE application button within BI Launchpad it prompts me to download a .BCLP file. What is this file? Is it the crystal designer client tool? I can't open it! But I am happy for users to download it from there.
PS. I have already installed CRE 4.1 SP02 on the server, and am able to view CR reports within Launchpad. So I know the application is there and works. I just want to know what the BCLP file is for.
Thanks
Andrew
Hi there,
I see this answer is marked as correct, but it's still not clear to me.
What is the client file? Is it the actual client designer tool, or is it some other file that is used by the designer tool? Can you explain a bit more?
Thanks

Hi Andrew,
Yes it is a client file and it points to crw32.exe on the system.
You can see this by going to
Control Panel -> Programs -> Default Programs -> Default Programs and select Associate a file type with a program.
Look for .bclp and it should be pointing to crw32.exe and if it is not kindly chnage it.

Thanks for your quick response. My assumptions have been that:
1. You can only create and edit a CRE report through the client designer tool on your desktop, not through Launchpad.
2. You can only view crystal reports through the Launchpad
3. The bclp download file is the client designer tool, much in the same way as I download the rich client for webi?
Is this correct?
This is really helpful - thank you.
1. I managed to open the bclp file with the CRE designer tool, as you suggested, and it works. The file seems to be like a connection wizard; it downloads and enters the server details for the user who is using the designer tool. In future designer sessions, all the user needs to do is click on 'Log onto server'. This means they don't need to know any secure server information.
2. I want my end users to view crystal reports within Launchpad but I definitely do not want them to use designer or download the bclp file. But if they see the Crystal Reports green diamond they will click on it and find it extremely confusing. Any ideas on preventing that
?
Thanks so much once again!
Hi,
Thanks for this post its very informative.
I just have 1 question, would this BCLP file work with a different version of Crystal? for example. Crystal Reports 2013? Cus i couldnt help but notice that only Crystal For Enterprise seem to be associated with this. I am experiencing this problem and all seem to lead to CRE not being installed yet i have a Crystal 2013 on my local machine. Please Help.
Thanks

It wont! It would only need CRE installation to work.CR 2013 is a legacy version of Crystal Reports. So any report that has been created using Legacy version can be opened in CR 2013. If a report is created in CRE then it would need Crystal Report for Enterprise installation on the local machine.
In your case you, would need to install CRE.
Hi Andrew,
I think it downloads this file when you try to 'Edit' a Crystal Reports for Enterprise report from the LaunchPad.

Hi Andrew,
BCLP file is a client file for CRE 4.x. When you launch CRE from BI Launchpad it needs the file.
You must have CRE 4.x client installed on the client machine where you are trying to launch CRE.
