Web Page Composer - Cannot add article!

Hi All,

Im new to WPC, I am following this PDF (https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/d06d15a7-10de-2a10-639d-9fabeb806a5e) to create and publish a webpage. I have been able to create an "Article" under Site Content and a Web Page under WEB Pages under my SITE.

The problem what Im facing is that when I edit my webpage, it opens up this page template with different headers like :

Preview

Select Page Layout

Select Page Links

Publish

Versions

etc, etc.

This page also has some empty containers which have a heading "Drop Content Here" and there is also a small pencil (change) at the top left corner of every container.

The problem is that when I drag and drop an article on any one of this containers, rahter than attaching the article/document, it opens up the article.

Even when I click on that change (pencil) and try to add an Item from "Site Content" Under Web Content Browser, there is no option to attach the article after reaching the article.

How do I add/attach Items on this web Page. Also, How can I add iViews to this page?

Please suggest.

Hi S.B. i´m also following that help link and can't get it work

When i click the browse button it opens the Web Content folder where i can see 2 subfolders

- Cross-Site Content

- Sites

I also have this options

- Favorites

- Personal Documents

- Recently used

- Common folders

- Public Documents

None of that options seems to have the access to the PCD

I also followed this help link Configuring Entry Points for iViews http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/06/4776399abf4b73945acb8fb4f41473/content.htm

HI Isabel,

I cannot see that screen after I click on the browse button. It might be because of some missing components dusing install for me. Anyways, yours looks more of a permissions issue.

Have you configured this :

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/45/f91dd13c7a04aae10000000a114a6b/content.htm

Emiliya also says the same:

Hi,
Please check your Security Zones.

Go to:
System Administration > Permissions > Portal Permissions > Security Zones > com.sap.nw.wpc > pagebuilder > medium_safety

Double click on u201Cmedium_safetyu201D in order to edit the properties.
Add u201Cwpc_content_editoru201D role to the assigned permissions pane and configure it to be u201COwneru201D and u201CEnd Useru201D.
After this setting the users having the wpc_content_editor role can edit articles but they canu2019t view what they have created. In order to give them the opportunity to view the result of their efforts we have to open the u201Cno_safetyu201D item and edit its properties.
Add the u201Cwpc_content_editoru201D with Administrator property set to u201COwneru201D and u201Cend useru201D checkbox selected.

Also add the u2018Everyoneu2019 group with Administrator u2018Readu2019 permission and End User checkbox enabled.

Let me know if that helps.

HI Sandeep,

So that means my installation went fine. But then why does it take me to the WPC home page on clicking any browse button? Be it in creating a navigation node or browing for an Article to add to a page.

Do you have any Idea why?

Thanks

HI Isabel,

for adding the iViews, when I click on the browse button on step 3. --> 3. Choose Browse... and select the folder containing shared Web content, I think it should take me to the PCD tree structure, whereas it takes me to the main home page of WPC role. I think our installation for WPC didnt go correctly.

Heres the link that im following:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/45/ed42c062f83116e10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm

What do you get when you click on the browse button?

Hi, now i´m able to add articles to a page. The thing was that in the Home layout, Article is a valid content type for the first container only.

Now i need to add iViews, but i can´t still create an Entry Point for the PCD folder.. I´ll appreciate any help

Thanks in advance

HI Isabel,

So which page layout did you select? All of them (if at all) have only the first container as the Article content type.

Hi S.B. the WPC i have installed is under the version 7.00 SP15 (1000.7.00.15.1.20080516095900).

It´s that ok?

Sandeep you´re right.. article is not listed as a valid content type on the containers. I´m using Home default page layout, i thought article was supposed to be permited on default layouts.

Thanks

Hi Isabel,

I had difficulty publishing my site because i had some components missing when the BASIS guys installed WPC.

Can you go to http://portalserver_hostname:54000/sap/monitoring/ComponentInfo

and search for WPC and see if under the version column you have correct version info.

Hi Isabel,

I know what exactly you are trying to do.

If you have difficulty adding articles, ensure you check these 2 things.

1. In the container, where you want to add the artiles, where you find "Drop Content Here"

Under that figure out if article is listed there.

You might find something like this.

[Portal iView, Article, Banner, Teaser, Link List, Paragraph, image/gif, text/html, image/jpeg, image/png]

2. In the container where you want to add the article.

As soon as you click on the edit (pencil symbol) you have an option Information.

Click on Information and check the web content types.

Is article listed there. If it is not listed, that container cannot add an article.

Hope this helps.

Hi, S.B. thanks for your reply. I´m actually able to add banners to a page, but how can i add an Article for it self? Do i have to create a banner for the article?

Another thing, i´m trying to create an Entry Point for adding iViews to a page. I followed help instructions (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/06/4776399abf4b73945acb8fb4f41473/content.htm) but i still can´t see the PCD folder i created for iViews under the Browse button on the Add Link option. Have any idea?

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Isabel,

For your question, on adding an article, it is not dependent on any banner. It is a seperate entity. So when you create one you can attach it to a page the same way you do it to a banner or anything else.

Can you tell me what stage are you stuck at on the above?

Hi Isabel,

In the "Web Page Composer" role, Under your "WebSite", click on the "site content" folder and then on the top navigation bar, select "New". This will be the first "menu item" on the page.

Under this you will get an option to create a new Article, when a new window pops up. Create anew banner and it will be available for you to add to the page when you edit your page.

HTH, let me know if that works for you.

Ok I got that. I have been able to add an Article. But here are 2 more questions:

1. What is the difference between the following:

a) Site Content

b) Cross-Site Content

c) Web Content

2. I cannot see my Iviews / PCD in this WEB CONTENT BROWSER. How do I add my iViews

Former Member

Hi,

On your questions:

- Site Content is the folder where you can store/create all resources that you want to be accessible by anyone of the pages inside the particular site. (For instance, if you create the content, e.g. article inside the WPC page itself, you cannot add the same article to any other page).

- Cross-Site Content is the folder where you can store/create all resources that can be "shared/; between the different sites, not only in s particular site

- Web Content is the WPC repository

In order to be able to access your pcd folder, you should make it visible:

Go to System administration -> System Configuration -> Knowledge Management -> Content Management -> Repository Manager -> pcd repository and make sure that "hide in root" is unchecked. If it's not - uncheck it. In order your changes to be applied, a restart is necessary. Once you can see the pcd folder in Content Adminisration -> KM Content, you can create a link to if in your Cross-Site Content folder. Then you'll be able to access it through the Web Content Browser during adding resources to you WPC page.

I am having difficulty understanding the above point. Do you mean to say that the content created in this folder will be accesible by all the pages within this site only and not by any external site or page?

2.

you can create a link to if in your Cross-Site Content folder.

I created a new folder in my PCD, and followed the instructions from your post and http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/45/3fe7b4f34d4a18e10000000a114a6b/frameset.htm

But please tell me how do I do point no 3. i.e ---> Create an entry point for the folder that you created in step 1d (for example, /wpccontent/iViews).

Hello,

About the first one - that's exactly what I mean - content created in this folder will be accesible by all the pages within this site only and not by any external site or page.

Regarding your other question, pls have a look at this link:

Hi Emiliya,

I will get on to the iView folder access later. But even without that I created a webpage and assigned an article to it. When I go to the role and see that page. It is Blank. There is nothing on the page, whereas I have a webpage, which when I click on from the Web Page Composer role, launches in a new window and displays the content.

Do you think Im missing anyting?

Hi S.B,

As long as you are a super admin, Im sure you should be able to see the content that has been created.

Probably, you can also, try to open the webpage from under the WPC role and then try clicking on the role that you have created.

Let me know if that helps.

If you want to change the permissions, you might want to refer to this.

HI Sandeep,

When I navigate to the webpage under my WPC role and then click on the webpage, the web page with content is displayed in a new window. It works from under the WPC role.

But when I click on my custom role to which I have assigned this site, the web page doesnt load. Could it be related to "External Connector"

I am on I.E 7, Windows XP. But that should not be an issue because the page is loading from under the WPC role.

Hi S.B,

Yes, we are approaching in the right direction it should be the external connector.

Check this link.

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/45/bbefabf01252f5e10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm

Check if you have // instead of /// (possible to miss one)

wpcnavigation:///wpccontent/Sites/<MyWebSite>/Site Navigation/navigation.wpc

Also, try deleting the content there and add tne navigation.wpc again.

I am sure that should solve your issue.

Do you think the "&" would be creating a problem ?

Also, when I click on the the navigation.wpc file under the WPC role under "Site Navigation folder", a new window opens up and this window is also blank. There is no content in this page too. Does your navigation.wpc have any content ?

When you say :

what do you mean by that. I do not see anything popping up when I click on navigation.wpc

S.B,

When I click on the navigation.wpc, it displays the properties of it like :

Hi Sandeep,

How do I do the following steps:

7.Create the navigation node.

8.Create the external connector and copy the navigtion node path there.

Correct me if Im wrong: 7 (above) is basically a new folder under the role. and 8 (above) is setting the new nodes/folders external connector property with the path that I copy from the contect menu of navigation.wpc site. Right?

Thanks,

SB

Former Member

S.B,

That is incorrect!

You have to copy the navigation.wpc and paste in under navigation for the ROLE and not for the folder under that.

Hi Sandeep,

Im having difficulty understanding that.

1. When I click on the contect menu of the navigation.wpc, I get 2 options. a) Copy Path b) Copy.

What I am doing is that I am clicking on "Copy Path" and pasting this copied path (preceding it with "wpcnavigation://" ) in the External connector property of new folder that I created under that role.

Is that correct ? If not, where am I going wrong?

S.B

S.B,

We are getting closer in resolving your issue.

As far as what you are doing

Copying the path and pasting it in the folder.

Instead the same path, open the properties of the role and paste them in the external connector.

That works for me.

HI Sandeep,

This is what I have added in the external connector proprty of my role:

wpcnavigation:///wpccontent/Sites/mysite/Site Navigation/navigation.wpc

and I still do not see the content. Its still a blank page.

My structure is something like this:

I have a role: Learning & Knowledge

This role has two nodes : Nodes A and Node B

The external connector properties of these nodes have been picked up from the respective 2 different navigation.wpc files, from two different websites A and B.

The ROLE's externel connector property is the same as that of Node A's external connector property.

Do you see any thing wrong ?

Thanks

SB

S.B,

I think, you are clubing two sites here.

1. The second website you have created is "mysite" and appropriately you have pasted the navigation.wpc in the external connector for the ROLE.

2. The second site is Learning & Knowledge which has two navigation nodes A and B and you are pasting the navigation.wpc in the external connector for the role?

Ideally if the first thing works then it will help resolve the issue.

Also, after you have done the step 1. Try logging out and relogin to the portal and check.

Hi Sandeep,

1. The second website you have created is "mysite" and appropriately you have pasted the navigation.wpc in the external connector for the ROLE.

2. The second site is Learning & Knowledge which has two navigation nodes A and B and you are pasting the navigation.wpc in the external connector for the role?

Yes, the second site I creared is "mysite" and I have pasted the navigation.wpc in the external connector for the ROLE. Thats right.

The other site is Learning & Knowledge.

Now when I navigate to my Content Admin role, I can see the custome role that I created. Under this role I have two folders, one is mysite and the other is Knowledge Bank.

Both the folders' external connector property has appropriate path from navigation.wpc

So to clear all this confusion.

I created a new Role, this new role does not have any new folder under it. I assigned the navigation.wpc path of mysite to the external connector of the role. This is simple and shoudl work. But it still doesnt. I even got my server restarted. Cleaned my cache and logged off and logged back in.

Do you think it could be related to permissions?

Hi Sandeep,

I changed the permissions following the link that you gave.

Question: Do you have "pagebuilder" under System Administration > Permissions > Portal Permissions > Security Zones > com.sap.nw.wpc >

I have only one folder under the above path and that is "WPC". As per Emiliya's reply, Im assuming there would be another folder with WPC under that path. Just confirming with you.

S.B,

I have the same setup like you. I only have the WPC folder.

Also, please check if the permission settings that you made are being reflected.

And while setting the permissions, did you click on reset child permissions and then save?

Also, the new role that you are creating for WPC is that assigned to the same user who is creating the webcontent with the WPC_EDITOR role?

Hi Sandeep,

How do I check if the permission settings are reflected. Yes I clicked on reset child permissions and then saved.

Also, the new role that you are creating for WPC is that assigned to the same user who is creating the webcontent with the WPC_EDITOR role?

Yes its me only. I have a super admin role and I have the WPC_EDITOR_ROLE.

I have checked the permissions and everything seems to be in place, but it still doesnt work.

S.B,

Can you please check this.

When you are trying to set the security permissions.

Under System Admin->System Configuration->Portal Permissions-> Security Zones->

Do you find any one or more entries for com.sap.nw.wpc.

If you find more than one, please make the same settings for the WPC folder under the other com.wpc.nw.wpc with respect to the no_safety and medium_safety as discussed earlier.

HI Sandeep,

I am doing that in the meanwhile can you send me a complete path of one of your external connectors. I mean something like this :

wpcnavigation:///wpccontent/Sites/TODAY/Site Navigation/navigation.wpc

I want to verify this also.

Hi Sandeep,

So I have two folders under SYS Admin-> Portal Permissions.

The first is "com.sap.nw.wpc" which has sub folders high_safety,medium_safety,no_safety,undefinedsafetylevel.

The second folder under Portal Permissions is "sap.com.nw.wpc" which has no_safety and undefinedsafetylevel under that.

Do you have a similar structure?

Thanks,

S.B

S.B,

My external connector path is this. Looks like it aint a problem with that.

wpcnavigation:///wpccontent/Sites/ztesting/Site Navigation/navigation.wpc

Let me know about the security zones as per my previous post.

Exactly, now let me know to which one are you editing the security permissions. It has to be done for com.sap.nw.wpc . Is this the same one you have made changes to?

Cheers,

Hi Sandeep,

Every folder has corresponding permisssion in front of it as below.

The path is System Admin->Portal Permissions->Security Zone->com.sap.nw.wpc

1. wpc - super_admin_role

2. high_safety - super_admin_role

3.medium_safety - super_admin_role, wpc_editor_role, everyone

4. no_safety - super_admin_role, wpc_editor_role, everyone

This is my permissions structure. Anything missing?

Hi S.B,

Everything seems to be in place.

The role that you assigned to yourself, did you make the entry point set to yes?

Are you able to see the role?

1. Also, try creating a user and assign the wpc role you have created and lemme know what happens.

2. Try creating another user, apart from wpc_editor_role and super_admin role, assign the new wpc role you created.

If possible, send me the screenshots of the permissions and the external connector that you have made.

Or the entire set of steps that you are following.

You can find my address in the business card.

Hi Sandeep,

Yes, the enty point is set to yes,

Yes I am able to see the role.

Assigned the newly created role to another user. The new user is also getting a blank page.

I have sent you the permissions screenshots.

Thanks,

Wow, this has been a chase!!

The problem is that my navigation node is not getting built.

When you click on Site Navigation->New->Navigation Node, you get to browse the TARGET. When I click on the browse button, instead of giving me an option to select the navigation point, it takes me to the WPC role's home screen.

I gave the path manually and there you go!! It runs.

Thanks Sandeep.

P.S Do you know what needs to be done to fix this problem.
