I have a customer that wants to update a solution they use for printing labels on a production line. They have a custom ABAP module that calls an RFC that is configured using SM59, which calls a remote process running on a Linux box that interfaces with the label printers. My thought is to replace this proprietary Linux application with a service written in Node.js or Java. Ideally we could do this with little or no change to the ABAP code, but just write a service that implements the same interface. I'm just starting the process of reverse engineering this so I can scope the project. But I'm not an ABAP/Basis expert so ... looking for advice at what I should be looking at.
