We have CR XI installed on our web server and use Cold Fusion to call up crystal reports. As people have started switching over to IE8, we seem to have problems where they are unable to print. The get the Crystal Reports Viewer - Webpage Dialog box to box up, just a white box. But no print dialog ever populates. They can export to PDF and then print the report, but not using the print dialog.
Any suggestions? Thoughts?
Thanks so much!!
This sounds like the activex printer control is not being installed, most likely prevented by a security setting on the OS or browser. XI was never tested with IE8, and cannot be guaranteed to work. You can search for information on how to manually distribute the activex control to those that have upgraded and see if that gets them working.
Another option is to switch to using PDF printmode which essentially exports the report to PDF and you can print from there.

What if you use [Fiddler|http://www.fiddertool.com] to track the workflow for the ActiveX Print Control? You should see it uploaded, then each page of the report uploaded as it invokes the print request.
Likely IE 8 is blocking the ActiveX print control upload - if the viewer can't identify the browser version\type in use, it'll fall back to PDF printing.
