Consider this as a theoretical question.
Customer's HANA database is down. Their indexserver data volume hdb00003/datavolume_0000.dat is 50GB in size.
Log file shows there is input/output error when loading indexserver data volume.
A disk problem is found, there is a bad sector. Customer recovered the file with ddrescue. dd rescue shows that 16kb is lost.
There is no backup of any kind. don't even think about it.
Server has been rebooted. HANA won't start up anymore.
Is there hope for recovering some data at all? They don't care about data consistency anymore at this point. I would compare this scenario to pulling a brick off of a skyscraper. In my naive opinion, it's a bit ridiculous to say it's impossible to salvage any data at all.
Request clarification before answering.
Recovering the lost 16kb data could be possible but complex and risky. It requires deep knowledge of the HANA database and the datavolume_0000.dat file. You could try to repair the file or use professional data recovery services. However, success isn't guaranteed and it can be costly. To prevent such situations, implement a robust backup and recovery strategy.
