Hi !

I use Solution Manager 7.1 SP08 and just completed the system monitoring and central Auto-Reaction in CEN a few weeks ago. Everything works great but I was wondering if a newer method than using CCMS agents SAPCCM4X for monitoring exists ?

Thanks for your help !

Hi,

Using CCMS agents for System Monitoring was primarily used for monitoring managed systems in SolMan 7.0.

When customers started requesting for graphical data for System Monitoring too, as we get for Root Cause Analysis, SAP  came up with  a new functionality called "Technical Monitoring" from SolMan 7.1. An this functionality doesn't use CCMS agents. It only uses the same Diagnostic agents, you install to connect managed systems with SolMan. So, no extra effort of installing SAPCCM4X and SAPCCMSR agents

For more information, please go through this document at http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-42732

Hope it helps.

Thanks,

MTH

CCMS was available on systems before SolMan 7.0 came about, have a look here it states SAP Release 4.0.  http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/08/5744174ae611d1894f0000e829fbbd/frameset.htm

Also SolMan 7.1 does in fact still rely on some aspects of CCMS, if you review the system monitoring templates under SolMan setup you can see that some metrics by default are gathered via CCMS.  A good example comes from NIMBL providing a way to monitor email/fax transmission from the managed systems.  http://sapexperts.wispubs.com/Solution-Manager/Articles/how-to-create-a-custom-metric-to-monitor-ema...

Hi,

Yes, central monitoring through ccms agents are possible in solution manager 7.1 version.

But, its more easier to configure and the monitoring and alerting features are good in newer system monitoring in solution manager 7.1 version.

7.1 introduced the new method of monitoring, and IMHO, is way easier to go about getting things setup than CEN.

Solman_setup > Technical Monitoring > on the left hand side you will see various radio buttons 'System Monitoring' > follow the steps to set things up.

Pre-reqs you have to go through Managed Systems Configuration as the system monitoring I believe is empty with nothing managed.

Also in the templates create your own custom ones from the SAP ones so you can modify values, when you are prompted for a transport start one up and leave it open as every template change you make will trigger a transport.  If you do a local object then you have locked your monitoring to that SolMan.

Here is a a thorough document on comparing and also migrating from CCMS to Technical Monitoring; figured it would probably be useful to you.
