Hi gurus,
During the preparation for enhancement pack update, SUM stops and needs confirmation that a list of OSS notes have been applied.
One note is obsolete, but SUM won't continue unless I download the note with snote. For QA and Production, I must open the system with scc4/se06 to perform the download. Is there a method to avoid the system open, for example, a transport?
Warm Regards,
CM

I'd also be interested in any good solutions to this, as it's a bit of a pain.
Basically, SUM has a list of notes, and it cannot check whether they are valid in your system or not, unless they are loaded into SNOTE.
For valid notes, this is easy, you apply them in Dev, you transport them through your landscape before running SUM, and when SUM checks SNOTE it finds they have been applied.
For obsolete notes, it's not so easy. In your Dev system, you download them in SNOTE, and SUM is able to check, see that they're not valid, and move on. But you have no way to populate SNOTE in your other systems via a transport for these obsolete notes, which means that you now need to run SNOTE in every system and download these obsolete notes, just so that SUM will be able to see them and be happy that they're not needed.
It's not the end of the world, but it's a bit of a pain. Most people never run SNOTE in any system other than Dev, so you can sometimes have problems running it in say a Prod system simply because your ID doesn't have access to run such things.
Yes, one solution for these is to edit the EHPINOTES.XML file and remove them, so SUM never checks, but that doesn't seem like a particularly clean or proactive solution. What would be ideal would be a way to create a transport from Dev which just contained the SNOTE information for these notes, so that moving the transport had the same effect as downloading the note. Much easier to send a transport to 10 systems than it is to run SNOTE 10 times, or modify an XML file 10 times...

you must open your system via se06 and scc4, as you said. you cant use transports at this point.
you could use them before sum starts so their status would be updated on the upgradable system. but now you have to open your system for modifications

I've got the same problem on productive system. I set in scc4 000 client as changable. But I cannot set SAP_BASIS as modifiable in SE06. In SCC4 is also client role, and I'm not sure if I can set it to Customizing or some other.
my problematic obsolete notes - 1678047,1701181
my system - ECC605/NW702 , update to ECC606/NW731, db2 LUW 10.1
@Paul, Basis Release is 7.0. There are 5 notes.
@Rishi, You do have to have an open system to download a note with snote.
@Reagan,SUM stops and tells me I need 5 notes implemented. I implement 4 and save them to transport. 1 note is not applicable for my release. I transport the 4 notes to QA and Prod. SUM stops in QA and Prod and tells me I need 1 note implemented. If I open the system and download the note with snote, SUM will continue. How can I get SUM to continue without opening the system?

So out of 5 notes you were able to implement 4 notes and 1 is shown "Cannot be implemented".
Could you provide me the note number ?
Secondly if a note is shown as "cannot be implemented" then most probably the note is part of the present patch level of the system.
Were you able to implement this note in the other system or was it not required there ?
If you are sure that the note is obsolete and not required then edit the EHPINOTES.LST file present at /SUM_directory/abap/bin and then check whether it helps you.
Good Luck

Hello
Implement all the SAP notes mentioned in the SUM tool in the development system.
Include them in one transport request and release it.
Import the transport request into the remaining systems in the landscape.

Hi,
I dont think that you need to open the system to download the note in snote. You need to open the system if you have to apply it and if you have applied it in dev you can take that transport.
SO to just download the note through snote no need to open the system.
Thanks

Hi Clifton,
What is the note number?
Wat is the SAP basis support pack level of the system?
Are you using the very latest sum patch level?
regards,
Paul
