SAP Workflow vs. Guided Procedures

Hello experts,

could anyone explain the differences between SAP workflow and Guided Procedures???

I know that workflows are just compatibel with a ABAP Stack. Is there a document which compares both process technologies???

Can I use CAF for SAP workflow???

Can I use the Visual Composer to create the UI for a workflow???

Thank you very much

Typically ABAP workflow is used for core processes i.e. processes contained in a single system e.g. in SAP ERP. Guided Procedure is used to define the process logic in composite applications which may span across multiple business systems and developed in the J2EE layer.

CAF and Visual Composer applications cannot be used in ABAP workflows generally, it's only for Guided Procedure where you can call a CAF web service or a VC application as a process step. Though in ABAP workflow there is a type of task called Web activity which may be used to call a web application like Visual Composer or CAF Web Service but it may not provide all the out-of-the-box features like GP for these external calls.

However, for Guided Procedure you have the option of using the BPM runtime engine in ABAP instead of the GP runtime engine in J2EE. You can enable this by some configurations as explained in this [SAP Help Doc|]
