The "next menu screen" is probably the same screen, since the RFUI application changes the screen dynamically, and while the menu looks different, technically speaking the screen didn't change so the assigned background image will still be the same.
If you don't want that, you could use some scripting to change the background picture, depending on what buttons are on the screen or what was pressed beforehand. Depending on your scenario, this may get a little tricky though if you have multiple menus where you want a different background image.
