Hi, I can't install, using VirtualBox in opensuse leap, because of

"Abort execution because of

Can anyone help?

If someone comes across this in 2021, like me:

The solution is to update the ASE license. This is the reason, why an additional license file can be found in the download section, which is not mentioned anywhere.

So first install everything like instructed. Wait for above error. Then place the license file in the folder:

/sybase/NPL/SYSAM-2_0/licenses (btw., I have not renamed it)

and then start the installation again.

I have no clue, why noone is mentioning it, but this installation needs 2 licenses. First is the database license file, mentioned here, which is a surprise for everyone, who has never dealt with the installation of sybase ASE databases before.

The second one is the ABAP license, which can be updated here: https://go.support.sap.com/minisap/#/minisap

Hey Andreas, It worked for me. Whoever is trying to install in 2021 July need to update the license as it is expired in March 2021.

You need to open the file: /sybase/NPL/SYSAM-2_0/licenses (you need root login)

You will find a license SYBASE_ASE_TestDrive.lic

You can download recent license from https://developers.sap.com/trials-downloads.html?search=ABAP

Look for SAP ABAP AS Part License.

Download it and open it. Copy the license text and paste it to SYBASE_ASE_TestDrive.lic file (it's basically overwrite) > Do save as and save it at the same location (/sybase/NPL/SYSAM-2_0/licenses) with file name: SYBASE_ASE_TD.lic

Then delete the license SYBASE_ASE_TestDrive.lic

Try installing again by running the command

Make sure you are at vhcalnplci:/home/abaptrial/ABAP
run command: ./install.sh

It will successfully install. OK

I had to rm the file from the folder then cp the file after log-in with root using su command. BTW. I am a Windows user for life and an ABAPer and not a BASIS.

I tried this several times, copied the new 2025 license to /sybase/NPL/SYSAM-2_0/licenses location, restarted the installing, and then it just hangs after a while. I tried renaming, cp'ing it, mv'ing it. I have probably tried the install from scratch 11 times and reinstalling 6 times with new license. Nothing works.

Newbies’ Guide: 752 Virtual Box

Newbies’ Guide: 752 VMWare

or SP04:

• Installing SAP AS ABAP 752 SP04 on Linux – Virtual Box
• Installing SAP AS ABAP 7.52 SP04 on Linux – VMWare

These all tell you to have a password of exactly 8 characters. Don't start with a special character ($%&). That might have saved you 5 days.

I think the install was not successful , although there is no error.

I had the same problem and the reason was the bad password, for example type the password as Asdf1234, Capital letter and number.

Finally I solved this issue using those steps:
- delete sap* files (sapinit) under /etc/init.d/

- delete OS users sapadm npladm sybnpl with Linux command userdel

My NPL install on the Opensuse Leap 15 is finally successful.

So I had 2 main issues :

1. Password problem ,

SOLUTION : change password to Asdf123. (1upper , 3 lower , 3 numbers , 1 special char)

2. The install hang on this output Authorizations set for /sybase/NPL/startase_reset_sa For more info please read also my post above and my comment to Bella Zoltan Jun 27, 2022 at 10:20 AM.

But, what is not mention in the topics 13185432 and 13663172 is:

After adding -T11889 after -c/sybase/NPL/ASE-16_0/NPL.cfg in /sybase/NPL/ASE-16_0/install/RUN_NPL

I have to reboot to make the sybase database process gone first and then install SAP again. There was no need to uninstall and reinstall the whole SAP, because this file /sybase/NPL/ASE-16_0/NPL.cfg was automatically created by the 1st failed installation (install was hanging or password problem)

My OpenSuse kernel info below is mayby useful for you, if you use same OpenSuse like me and face same issue.

I deleted the last vm image with the stuck install .

Then I began new SAP intall with saved opensuse vmware image.

Now before the SAP install I did chmod +x SYBASE_ASE_TD.lic.

Now the install is stuck here, see the right terminal

I still do not break the install. And there is still no error in the log like previous install.

I open another left terminal and ps -ef

I saw a process " sh /sybase/NPL/startase_reset_sa " above the not killable " /sybase/NPL/ASE-16_0/bin/dataserver "

I have also found this in the NPL.log:

oh, I just fixed my password to 8 characters: at least one upper, lower, number and special char. And now the installation is successful even with the Mar-2022 license. And I can successfully connect to the SAP server and log in. Next step: Dev license 🙂

Hi Kritesh,

This is a generic error code, which may not be connected to the password. There should be some log files in /tmp/sapinst_instdir . Please send us the errors in these files. Please do not send the whole files - they are far too big.
