SAP MDG Parallel Change Requests for Material Enrichment Success Stories

Dear fellow SAP MDG specialists,

Has anyone ever implemented the Parallel MDG Change Request Concept (not to be confused with parallel Workflow Work Items within the same CR!) in MDG for material master (or other objects) enrichment as part of a new record creation process? If so, can you please share your experience? The capability is well documented by SAP but I have not personally seen it implemented yet.

Business scenario: A company follows a guiding principle in a material master creation process where the knowledge holders need to enrich the data with the correct attribute values in MDG CRs. Some of these business roles / workflow agents are plant-specific (e.g. Planning Data Expert). The company's material master creation solution today consists of several follow-up CRs, some with parallel workflow items (grouped by functional domains within a material). Today the company creates and extends materials for one plant at a time (in a single record creation scenario). However, in the future they would like to be able to create and enrich materials for multiple plants in a single process iteration. The challenge is that because they have plant specific roles, a large number of workflow agents would need to be involved in the enrichment process. One of the options the company is considering is using parallel MDG CRs (one per plant) during the material enrichment process. In this case an initial CR with a list of plants would trigger parallel follow-up CRs for plant-specific enrichment.

Any insights or alternatives would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Gleb, typically for multinational companies, the 'change material' process flows (including any follow-up obviously) are setup as parallel CR to avoid dependencies of data changes across the organization on the same object. While setting up a parallel CR type, you can either opt for a. different CR types to be maintained in this parallel CR or b. let the workflow determine (dynamically) what changes were done and trigger dependant steps condition based.
