SAP MDG FI: Node XXX is not located within the hierarchy

Hi SCN Community,

I hope you are all doing well.

While performing operations on SAP MDG Finance Data Loads (Cost and Profit Center Hierarchy), I encountered an error during File Upload – Step 04 (Check & Execute):

"Node XXX is not located within hierarchy."

Interestingly, this cost hierarchy already exists in the system for the given edition, but it is not visible under Display Master Data: Cost Center Group hierarchy.

Here’s what I have already checked:

  • In Steps 1 to 3 of File Upload, all parameters were evaluated and assigned correctly.
  • The variant settings appear fine.
  • The hierarchy structure in the system matches the Excel file.

I’m unsure what might be causing this issue. Could anyone please guide me on:

  • What parameters I should re-check or adjust?
  • Possible reasons why the hierarchy is not being recognized at Step 04?
  • Any best practices or troubleshooting steps for this scenario?

Your insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards,
Sandeep Suggu.

Please try splitting the data load into two stages:

  1. First Load – Focus on loading the Nodes.
  2. Second Load – Handle the Cost Center and Profit Center assignments.

Rationale:

  • If an error occurs, isolating the node load helps identify issues at the node level. Once nodes are successfully added, we can be confident in their structure.
  • Loading Cost/Profit Center assignments separately ensures they are correctly mapped to the validated nodes.

Hence, I recommend proceeding with a two-step data load approach for better traceability and accuracy.

Hi @a_ramanathan45, thank you for your response. It’s working fine now as per your inputs. The issue was identified — I removed the empty column and segregated Cost Center Group separately for unique values each time. After that, everything is running smoothly without any errors. Hi Sandeep,

did you checked that the hierarchy has been activated after saving?
