Hi, Is there a way to output the search results to a file of some kind, such as spreadsheet ?

From the designer application, unfortunately, there is no such a feature, my recommendation would be to open an enhancement request.

Outside SAP Data Services Designer application, you could trace the SQL query sent to the DB when you perform a search from the designer. Then use the SQL query to dump the data to a file, or even create a job in SAP Data Services Designer that accepts the object you want to search as a parameter and then send the query to the DB and write the output to a file object of your choice.

Thanks. I tried the trace idea, but didn't get any results from the trace data matching my search string. So if I searched "ABCDEF" in SAPDS, I do not see any trace records containing "ABCDEF"

I confirmed this, so the story goes, there is no “query” per say. Designer uses/loads internal metadata from the local repository or external metadata from the source, and performs in-memory search.
