SAP BW 7.4 on ASE - BW 7.5 ASE Upgrade

Dear All,

We need to upgrade BW 7.4 on ASE 16.0 to BW 7.5 ASE 16.0. I have gone through some BW blogs and guides and most describe about BW on HANA.

Can you please advice me steps required to do Upgrade?

i.e pre-steps,upgrade and post steps.

Hi Biral,

There are no pre-upgrade steps specific for BW on ASE systems. The general NetWeaver SUM upgrade steps apply.

Is there a particular area of concern wrt the BW system?

All relevant information related to the upgrade process is provided in respective SUM & ASE update SAP Notes. Please let me know if you need those..As mentioned, for NW 7.4->7.5, we may review SUM notes & for ASE update, please check SAP Notes:

Hi Madhvi,

Actually,I will be performing first time BW upgrade. SAP BW is very specific system.

I mean the steps mentioned in this blog.-- https://blogs.sap.com/2016/06/22/bw-upgrade-to-74-steps-from-bw-perspective/ . Do i need to perform this steps before starting upgrade?

Can i use DMO in this case? I know while performing DMO, it ask two option:upgrade+migrate. If i select upgrade,will DMO will update ASE 15.7 -ASE 16.0? What can be options to perform BW upgrade? First ASE DB upgrade or SUM upgrade and then ASE upgrade.

Hi Biral,

DMO does not apply in your case (since you are not migrating to a different database).

As such, the NW and ASE upgrades are independant of each other. The order in this case shoud be: ASE first, then NW.

Please upgrade ASE to PL07 first (per the notes mentioned in SAP KBA 2238127).

After this, the SAP NW BW 7.4->7.5 upgrade can be conducted via SUM.
