SAP BODS/IS upgrade from 4.2 SP14 to 4.3 SP03

Hi All,

We plan to upgrade the current BODS/IS+ BIP landscape from 4.2 SPXX to DS/IS 4.3 SP03 Patch 1 + BIP 4.3 SP4 Patch 8 on Linux OS.

After referring to many SAP documents and guides, we are planning to do an in-place Upgrade to 4.3  without uninstalling the older versions of any of the products(which we are not sure how it works). Has anyone worked on a similar set of approach? or any suggestions?.

I would recommend going with the latest IPS/DS/IS releases.

1. Download IPS, DS and IS from
   • For IPS:
     • SAP Software Centre > Support Packages & Patches > By Category > Analytics Solutions > SAP Data Services > SAP Data Services 4.3 > SBOP Information Platform SVCS 4.3 > 
     • Filter by the Operating system
     • Download SBOP Information Platform Services 4.3 SP04 Patch1000 ONE (IPS4304P_1000-70002777.TGZ)
   • For DS:
     • SAP Software Centre > Support Packages & Patches > By Category > Analytics Solutions > SAP Data Services > SAP Data Services 4.3 > SAP Data Services 4.3
     • Filter by the Operating system
     • Download SBOP DATA SERVICES 4.3 SP03 PL 4 HF2 (DS4302H_42-80007395.TGZ)
   • For IS:
     • SAP Software Centre > Support Packages & Patches > By Category > Analytics Solutions > SAP Information Steward > SAP Information Steward 4.3 > SAP Information Steward 4.3 > SAP INFORMATION STEWARD 4.3
     • Filter by the Operating system
     • Download SAP INFORMATION STEWARD 4.3 SP 03 PATCH 4 (IS4303P_4-80007399.TGZ )
2. Make sure you have BI/IPS/DS/IS 4.3 License Key before starting upgrade.
   • For IPS License key, please open a ticket in the component XX-SER-LIKEY-BOJ and request IPS License key
3. Take backups of the CMS repository
4. The rest of the steps are pretty much the same steps you follow when patching or upgrading. Make sure to update IPS license key 4.3 in CMC > License Keys after upgrading IPS and Enable the CMS Servers (CMC > Servers > Server List), otherwise, you will not be able to proceed with DS & IS upgrade.

   • SAP Information Steward - Upgrade an existing environment
5. After Upgrading all the components, Upgrade DS & IS Repositories
6. Resync the repositories with the Job Server
7. Validate that everything works.

Hi Joe,

Thank you for your response.

We are currently using BIP in our landscape for the CMS functionality, and I hope it is ok to continue using it with the 4.3 SP4 Patch 8 version as per the note 3197694).  As IPS is just a trimmed version of the BIP, and customized for the data services.

Upon checking the SAP Note: 3197694 with the comparability matrix, I see below are active and compatible versions( Please check the attachment.)

DS/IS 4.3 SP03 Patch 1 + BIP 4.3 SP4 Patch 3-8

I hope my understanding is correct.

Based on these, we have downloaded the following Files for the BIP, DS, and IS

For the remaining steps, like upgrade, migration and resync, we would be following the similar steps that you have mentioned.

Can you please comment on the planned target versions and downloaded files?.

@MekhaMahendraprabhath, BIP should also work just fine and yes the versions you highlighted are compatible and should work.

Thank you for the detailed steps on the versions and installation procedure. I have a similar configuration with SUSE 12.3 and SAP DS 4.2 SP14 with Oracle 19c for CMS in my current installation. I wanted to upgrade to SAP DS 4.3 but SAP DS 4.3 is not compatible with SUSE 12.3. I have to do a completely new installation. Our new test and production servers are already installed with SUSE 15.5 version of OS. When I check PAM for compatible versions PAM does not show SUSE 15.5, it has SUSE 15.2, 3, 4, and 6 but not 5. Should I go ahead and install the versions that are compatible with SAP DS 4.3 SP3 Patch 6 or should I ask my OS to be upgraded to 15.6?
