SAP AS ABAP 7.52 SP04 - Error Unable to generate a new password for database login 'sa'

Hello Guys,

there's this specific question again in this Community, now It's my turn to question this 🙂

While trying to install the SAP Trial Version 7.52 SP04, the following Error Message leads to the Cancellation of the Installation:

"SAP AS ABAP 7.52 SP04 - Error Unable to generate a new password for database login 'sa'."

So, Problem detected, how to solve?

Many, many Community Entries stated the same answer: "Outdated ASE License, please use this Link to the latest License", for example this Post.

Here's the Content for the Trial Version: Developer Trials and Downloads, including the relevant License File.

But wait, so I i detected the Problem and found the Answer, why do I still write on this Post?

This "latest" License Entry for SP04 is outdated since March-31 2022, according to the Companion txt.File in the unzipped Folder.

So unfortunately I was running a few days too late for this installation? Is the SAP-Team not able to renew its license in time to prevent User from going bonkers about aborted installations?

Has anyone some fresh, new License Content for me?

Any help would be highly appreciated

Hi Robert, thank you for your answer, I didnt knew that with the wrong comment, but why was this never changed, since this File has been released for mor than a year ago?

I already simplified my Password to dont exceed 8 Characters, is there any Documentation about the Requirements of the Password?

The Incident with the Linux Kernel, so after adding the -T11688 to the File, the installation simply has to be restarted or is there something else to keep in mind?

Hi hubert72m,

probably you oversimplified the password. Not sure, what are the requirements exactly - at least 8 chars, 1 capital + 1 lower + 1 digit + 1 special.

The easiest will be to stick with supported Linux. Otherwise this blog from murmelssonic could be helpful.

Passwrd1 != Password#1

and your problem is different. There is no panacea here.

Okay so now let us circle back:

What have I done according to Roberts proposal:

Install on lower Linux Kernel Version than 5.4 -> OpenSuse 15.2

Restart Installation with Pasword#1

Double checked Hostname is vhcalnplci and IP-Assignment like in instruction

Installation still fails with common Error Codes:

-sapsystemname neither in profile or command

-could not generate password fpr user 'sa'

Sorry for the confusion. I tried both password variations and neither worked. The OG's problem is slightly different than mine, but we're pretty much in the same boat.

New installations, unable to install for god knows what reason. The license that's included in the download files has expired, which is one POSSIBLE reason install isn't working. I've tried all suggested solutions here in the community.

One friend installed this ok... it seems that although the info.txt for the license says it has expired, the actual expiry is on 31.03.2023 (i.e. next year from the point of the year 2022 when I am writing this).

Before you begin the install, did you check that you renamed the file and put it in the directory .../server/TAR/x86_64/ ? Here the advice from one blog I wrote... this license was still working in April 2022...

"So if the license is valid, rename it to SYBASE_ASE_TD.lic – but, unlike what the info.txt says (as you cannot put it into a directory that doesn’t even exist yet) instead do as follows: copy and paste the SYBASE_ASE_TD.lic to subdirectory TD752SP04/server/TAR/x86_64/ (where TD752SP04 is the top directory of the unrarred files)."

[Postscript: decided to check for myself also whether the license is still valid... installation ok on 24.04.2022].

Try sap website developer TRIALS AND DOWNLOADS PAGE access the download files among them you should find a LICENSE FILE click and download then install the same according to SAP COMMIUNITY BLOGS(Julie Plummer) and restart the SAP (sapstart all ) and check license 'hope taht helps

I am still stumped. I've copied the license file as suggested by Dylan but to no avail. The install just exits as below:

Backing up /etc/sysctl.conf in /etc/sysctl.backup
Checking Linux kernel parameter vm.max_map_count according to SAP Note 900929
Checking presence of new SYBASE license files
Added the license file /sybase/NPL/SYSAM-2_0/licenses/SYBASE_ASE_TD.lic
SAPCAR: processing archive /tmp/sapdownloads/server/TAR/x86_64/SAPHOSTAGENT42_42-20009394.SAR (version 2.01)
SAPCAR: 45 file(s) extracted

Any suggestions?

The new license is available on minisap:

• SAP License Keys for Preview, Evaluation and Developer Versions - i.e. minisap

Don't forget to choose

• "NPL" for 7.52 SP04 and earlier (ASE Sybase database)
• or "A4H" for SAP ABAP Platform, developer edition on Dockerhub, when this becomes available.

Step1 : Please access the link https://developers.sap.com/trials-downloads.html

browse down until you find - SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP Developer Edition 7.52 SP04

under this there are all RAR based Files to download among them there is a FILE called - SAP ABAP as PART LICENSE just download it and extract to a folder ,once extracted you will find a text and license SYBASE license file ,text file will give you instructions to replace expired license file witjh the downloaded license file you have to replace in SYBASE install folder on your ABAP server once done you need use startsap ALL command as user <sid>adm FOR EXAMPLE npladm USER on your linux server

then when it starts ,it will read the new SYBASE ASE license file and will update the license file ,usually this license file(sybase ase) is for 10 months or a year

what you are looking above at MINISAP is for SAP GUI fron end as abap nw 752 server license which is to renewed every 3 months

For more information type Julie Plumer - SAP ABAP AS NW 752 SP04 in google search to get her BLOG where lots of iformation is posted and fellow sap community members pose questions which are answered by sap community

I'm so perplexed on why you suggested this solution when he's writing to say that the solution you are proposing isn't working. The file you are referring to is completely outdated which he why he wrote this post. The license that you are telling him to download is outdated.

Also as a side note sometimes SA user would have been disabled(security reasons) or maybe it got LOCKED (wrong passwd attempts to change ) so please use other logins like sapsa /sapsso/sybnpl AND THEN check SA user status using isql command prompt

Thanks for the reply and time Iam also using same instance (sap abap as nw 7.52 sp04 DEVELOPER ) edition

as you and a few months back my sap ase license expired (database) I got from SAP official site - sap trials and downloads and followed Julie Plummer (Sap employee and community member ) instructions since then it has been working

what I noticed the SAP ASE database license is for longer period ,and SAP NW as abap license that you install from MInisap website is every 3 months
