SAC Live connection with BW/HANA with runtime license

Dear Experts,

This question is more from licensing perspective!

When BW/4HANA is running with "Runtime License" (No access to HANA DB) is it possible to connect BW/4HANA with SAC type "Live Connection"?

Thank you and BR,

Manna

Hi Manna,

Whether it's BW/S4 or anything else on HANA. If you are directly connecting to HANA you are bypassing the application layer, and with that also bypassing the security and authorizations built at that application layer itself. This is important and hence wanted to bring up this point.

Further, whether you can do that with your license or not? I would recommend talking to your account executive for that, s/he is the best person to answer that.

Hello Ashutosh,

I wrote in my query that "Runtime License" does not allow to connect with HANA. So this is invalid in this scenario. My understanding is in the situation of direct connection to HANA, security and authorization will be applicable as it is defined in HANA.

Sometimes you get much fast response (as you did) on this platform compared to communicate with your SAP counterpart.

Cheers!

Hi mannadas206

Good question.

My understanding is Yes, a runtime license should be sufficient, as SAC connecting in "Live/Online mode" to BW is communicating with the Analytical query in the BW Application layer, rather than directly to the HANA Database/Tables.

Kind regards

Henry

Hello Henry,

Thank you for the quick response!

If this would be the case, then my query is closed. We are about to acquire licenses then would be able to verify the actual possibility.
