S4 Readiness Checker report out of BW7.5 System - Forbidden Object Found - Error messages ..

We are just about to start our S4 journey and are in the initial phase of preparatory checks and readiness stages.

One of the thing that was carried out was running a S4 Readiness check for our BW system which has thrown up a myriad of errors in various areas of BW such as Update rules, transformations, process chains, DTPs to name a few.

A very common theme behind the vast majority of error is the use of objects that were allowed in BW 7.5 but  are forbidden in the world of S4.

A few examples of these errors are ( there are a few 100s of these types of forbidden errors):

  • Code FUNC: Found match(es) of forbidden object FUNC CONVERT_TO_STAT_CURRENCY.
  • Code PROG: Found match(es) of forbidden object PROG RSBCTGLS_INCL_GLOBAL_SPEND.
  • Code TABL: Found match(es) of forbidden object TABL GLS_CNT_REDEL.
  • Code DTEL: Found match(es) of forbidden object DTEL SR_VE_GNLOCATIO.

In spite of numerous searches online, I am unable to figure out the fixes to these type of errors should be. If an  BW object is forbidden in S4, then is there a replacement object for it in S4 ? Is there a composite OSS note  that gives a list of possible replacements by code type ? What approach should be take to resolve these errors. Our first step at getting ready for S4 to convert every single 3.x Update rule to 7.x transformation.  But before we do that I would like to know how we are supposed to handle these forbidden objects errors.

Am sure we are not the first ones to have encountered this. So please if anyone could give me some sort of steer in the right direction to tackle these messages , that would be greatly appreciated.

Are you running a standalone BW (based on SAP Netweaver) or an embedded one (ERP/ECC)?

yes Roland. We are currently running a standalone BW system based on SAP Netweaver

If that is the case, then would you go with S/4HANA instead of BW/4HANA? The next step for standalone BW is BW/4HANA.

Hi Roland

We are going to with BW4 HANA as apart of the S4 Upgrade. The readiness checks were run as part of this process of moving towards BW4 HANA
