S/4HANA Cloud data to Analytics Cloud: CDS views in live connection?

Dear expert colleagues,

for a customer I am currently trying to connect an S/4HANA Cloud system to SAP Analytics Cloud via a live connection. I have succeeded in establishing a live data connection of the type 'S/4HANA - Cloud' in our demo system as a proof of concept, but have a pair of questions that I have been researching (without success unfortunately) for a while now...

The connection:

(Please note that the covered fields have been filled correctly) The result from this connection is that I can create a model with the following data output:

Apart from the fact that SAC defines this live data connection as a 'SAP BW' system type, my first question is: What data am I seeing here? Where does it come from? From the S/4HANA Cloud system obviously, but how can I recognize its source and functional context? Does it come straight from HANA tables or...?

My second question is, in accordance with this post's title, if I want to push S/4HANA CDS views (both standard and custom ones) to SAC, (how) can I do this with a live data connection? Or are (custom) CDS views only supported as import connections? And if so, which one should I use?

I have been looking for a similar scenario online, but can never really find a solution that is fitting. Thank you all for any help in advance!

With kind regards,

Lars.

Hi All,

I could see this issue is very similar to mine. we are able to call SAP Standard CDS views such as 2CCFIGLLITMQ0001, 2CCFIPLPLANACT, 2CCFIAP_DPO into SAC using Live connection, the same CDS queries can not be accessed using Import data connection.

we are using S/4HANA 1909 as back-end. Could you help me fix this issue pls.

Hi Lars,

not sure about your question - "What data am I seeing here?"

If you ask, what 2CCAPFLXBLAGING and the other 2C Data Sources - these are Transient Queries generated from CDS View or better 2C<generated SQL View> which you can see in Eclipse or in SE11 with <generated SQL View> and there see the mapping to CDS view.

See also here: https://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/display/BI/Example%3A+Transient+Query+based+on+CDS+View

Hope that helps. If not, please clearify your question.

For your second questions, S/4HANA On-Premises is supported with live connection via CORS:

Hi Peter,

thank you for your message. However, my situation concerns an S/4HANA Cloud system, which does not allow me to approach the system via Eclipse or the GUI.

As for the second answer; I take away from that that we cannot live connect to S/4HANA Cloud for the CDS views, only for on-premise.

Oh, ok. Sorry, had overseen the "Cloud" aspect here.

Very interesting. Especially as SAP now announced to deliver SAC embedded with S/4HANA Cloud from 1911 release with live connection:

But maybe this now means to have embedded exclusiv...

Answer to #1 - those appear to be CDS queries; they may have come from the SAC standard content

Please see answer to #2 here: https://apps.support.sap.com/sap/support/knowledge/public/en/2595552

Hi Tammy,

thank you for the prompt response. If these are CDS queries from the standard content, I assume they contain data from my S/4HANA system mapped towards the standard SAC content?

As for your answer to my second question, I think this specific solution will not work because it concerns an S/4HANA Cloud system, which does not allow for the use of the Eclipse stack with ABAP Development tools unfortunately.. What I do find is the use of an import connection, which is not live unfortunately: https://s4hanacloud.community.sap/blogs/show/MDVnu3KkOtAguGE89KQOzj

On the first item, yes, that would be my assumption
