Hi all,
Does anyone know if it is possible to use our on premise Design Studio / Web Intelligence tools to query a Hana database on SAP HCP?
From what I've read the Hana Cloud Connector only supports HTTP and RFC, and Hana Cloud Integration supports a few more protocols but not JDBC/ODBC.
I saw that the Hana console client can be used to open a tunnel to HCP, which then allows you to configure an ODBC connection locally. But unless I'm missing something this only works for up to 24 hours, and has to be initiated manually.
Any insights much appreciated!
cheers,
Guy
Yes, you got it right. That's the supported options at present.

Thanks Vlado.
I guess there is also the option to create XS OData/XSJS web services on HCP to expose any data we have in the Hana DB there. Then in theory these could be consumed by on premise front end tools via an internet proxy. But it would be a bit of a pain to work in this way.
Do you know if there are plans to add ODBC/JDBC into the connectivity options offered by HCP (either the Connector or Integration)?
cheers
Hi Guy,
I can take the question regarding ODBC/JDBC: this will soon be supported by SAP HANA Cloud Connector. You can then use on-premise DB or ETL tools and connect them via the cloud connector to the databases in the cloud.
Regarding the XS OData question: HANA XS supports OData exposure of HANA content out of the box. It is very easy to access content stored in HANA via OData/REST.
Best regards,
Timo
Hi Timo,
Thanks - that's great news about the Hana Cloud Connector. Do you know when this is scheduled for release?
I appreciate the XS option isn't that complicated, but exposing our data via a web service to the internet and consuming it on premise through an internet proxy feels like a workaround.
cheers
