I thought I understood how Extended Notifications work, but apparently I do not 😞
I configured a new category by copying WORKFLOW > STANDARD.
The collective message allows grouping only within the same category.
Subscription has granularity N (multiple notifications in one email) and REMINDER_DAYS set to 2.
The delta filter schedule selection is every 3 minutes between 07:00 and 19:00 7 days a week.
The full filter schedule selection is 07:00 Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Delivery schedule is every 3 minutes 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
The initial delivery of notifications was as expected, notifications were delivered quickly and with multiple work items in a notification when relevant.
I expected that the reminders would be delivered according to the full selection schedule, but this is where I obviously have misunderstood how full selection and/or reminders work. I have not received a single full selection message, but I receive two reminder emails every other day. These are "identical" to the original messages. That's spamming, not notifying, so I assume I must have done something wrong in my setup.
The desired outcome is that notifications about new work items should be sent out quickly, but only once, and subsequent reminders should come from the full selection, but only every other day. How must I change my configuration to achieve that?

After some testing I think a change in the subscriptions is what will get me closest to what I want to achieve. I think we will go live with a setup approximately as follows to try and find a reasonable trade-off between quick notifications and reminders for people who don't process their tasks:
Delta selection every 30 minutes between 03:00 and 21:00.
Never perform full selections.
One subscription with a delivery schedule for "immediate" delivery (every minute round the clock every day).
One message contains multiple notification. No reminders.
One subscription with a delivery schedule Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 06:00 UTC.
One message per category. Reminder days = 2.
There is activity around the clock and the world, so that's a problem with regards to daily reminders. It's a framework, so I guess it would be possible to create custom handler classes to deliver notifications at the same local time based on the time zone in user master data. Won't happen any time soon here I think 🙂
