Q1, Q2 etc... this year, with a dynamic range filter

Dear all,

I need to show in a story data for Q1 (1st quarter) this year, Q2 this year etc... and I want to make it with a dynamic date filter range, to not have to select a fixed quarter (and then update the stories every year to change the filter to next year...).

I could not make it with the standard range definition criteria ("a bit" frustrating BTW for something so basic).

Then I thought, I would set a "Current date" Input Control set to January 1st, but I already use one and only one is possible. On top of this, the only dynamic selection for this input control is "current date". So really not possible.

So in short: no solution so far.

I hope my skills are the limitations and somebody more experienced found a solution for such a basic requirement.

NB: I'm not willing to use "Analytic Application" as so far it would be the only reason to leave the standard "story" mode.

Hello claude-eric.lesellier,

See if below steps helps your scenario:

With one page filter.

Use standard function to select current year here. You can choose variety of other option like current and previous / current and next etc.

Out put is now based on two filter. If required you can exclude page filter from this widget. Go to link option and exclude table widget.

If you have something custom in mind, then you can use range filter option as well.

Say you want to keep it dynamic and auto shifts when date changes. Beside you want to look back 4 quarters and look forward 2 quarters (example below)

Output changes as per selection and now as your system dates changes your filter shifts as well. Here current QTR is Q4 2021 and table is showing 4 QTR back and 2 QTR ahead.

If you are trying to show quarters in multiple graphs then use Trellis function in your chart of choice. Here is an example on how to activate it-

Then add the date dim

You can playground with the format and different chart type

Thanks,

Vijayeta

Dear Vijayeta,

This is a very good suggestion, thank you.

The only issue is that when using trellis, the graph chart size is not anymore under control.

Too bad there is not an "autofit" option (or at least a zooming ratio) to make sure the chart fits the allocated area instead of simply going back to standard size and add a scroll bar.

But I take you suggestion!

Thank you.

Claude-Eric

Hello claude-eric.lesellier,

Appreciate if you mark the solution as accepted.

Your 2nd issue can be addressed by use of responsive page. If you use tables instead you get an option to auto resize as well.

Note: You can use "Comments" for reply. This way original solution provider get notified.

Thanks,

Dear Vijayeta,

Thx for your suggestion and for taking time to describe it.

That is useful, but not fully covering my requirement, which was maybe not clear enough.

I'm not trying to show simultaneously Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 - which would be easier - I need on a graph chart to show only Q1, on another one Q2 etc... And this whatever current quarter is.

And there I'm struggeling with the fact dynamic range is always relative to current quarter.

Yes, initial post was not clear. 🙂
The function you are looking for is Trellis. I updated my original reply with additional info on "how to enable Trellis"

Hope this help.
