Dear Experts,
I am in a very stupid situation when trying to create a MaxDB system copy !!
1. Database Studio is NOT working !! With dbmcli I can login using the CONTROL user without ANY problems!
But Database Studio says - No no no, incorrect login! How come ??
2. I am installing the Database Instance with SWPM. When creating the Backup Template, I had to point to one of the backup files (there are 15 backup files in total). It would not let me just select the directory!
Then the restore doesn't work and SWPM gives an error message:
-3070, A previous data recovery was incomplete and must be repeated
Then I found some more advanced command and it said - Next media needed !!
Now I realized, that the thing sees just ONE backup file and is unable to get the others! Alright, fine! Let's define the others !! I found the medium_put command, but to my BIGGEST FRUSTRATION it doesn't seem to be able to add numerous mediums to the backup template !!! Every time when I try to add a new medium, I found out that the one that I did in the previous step had vanished !!! WHY ???!!!??? This CAN be done with the Database Studio !! But it doesn't let me login !!! This is totally hilarious !!
PLEASE provide some advice! Many thanks!

database studio not works, maybe it is password case sensitive ? What about try username and passwor both in CAPITAL words?
Yes, better to use database studio? To let database studio works: 1. create an empty database, but superdba, control password must be the same as source system 2. then database studio login should work 3. now you can do restore, recovery 🙂

Hello,
I can understand your frustration. System copy is more advanced operation which requires some experience. If you are doing system copy of a SAP system you can consider using R3load based export/import.
Current system copy implementation using database backup is implemented for a simple case with just one backup file. Therefore you should recover manually (SWPM provides this option too).
The misery with DB studio is probably because you believe that you are using case sensitive passwords. What is not true. (internally SWPM turns the passwords uppercase). Therefore on login in DB studio clear the check box for case sensitivity.
I hope you are doing system copy in context of migration to S4HANA or another product. The official life time of MaxDB is running out in 2027 with regular support and 2030 with extended support. Please check the SAP note 1178367 - SAP MaxDB: End of Support Dates - SAP for Me
For further processing of your issue it is reasonable if you open SAP case, as hier not just one issue, but many putting toghether. How you expect an effective help on this?
To be able to recover a parallel backup of #15 devices you need to set the database parameter MaxBackupMedia to 15 or higher. Afterwards put db to offline and to admin state again.
Good luck!
