Problems using Eclipse 2024-06 (4.32.0) Build id: 20240606-1231

Hi, I am faced with the problem in Eclipse that in the ABAP perspective the attached "SAP HANA System Libary", folder "Repository content" could not fetch data. While expanding the folder it flickers and in the status bar is it switching between "Fetching children of Repository content (5%)...." and "Selecting node...." continualy. But without any result. I already detached the libary and attached it again. No change in behaviour.

And my SAP message was "refused" refering to this:

Could someone of you help?

Regards,

Peter

Hi Peter

Since BW 7.50 this connection is no longer required to be able to do mixed modeling (use HANA CV-s in HCPR for example), as the metadata collection of the HANA artefacts is done by the backend and not by BW Modeling tools. This is also stated in the consulting Note:
2910005-BW Modeling Tools: Installation hints

===================================================

However, if you want to use HANA Views in a CompositeProvider on SAP BW 7.40, the installation of HANA Studio is required. In SAP BW 7.40 the HANA View models were loaded via the HANA System Connection connected to the BW project ("Attach HANA System"). Since SAP BW 7.50 SP4 and SAP BW/4HANA, the model information will be loaded via the ABAP stack directly from the server.
In this case, the "Attach HANA System" feature is not necessary and this functionality can be used for instance to switch from the BW object which consumes HANA views to the corresponding HANA View. So for usage of HANA Views in a CompositeProvider, the "Attach HANA System" is no longer required, except for 7.40.

The functionality "Attach HANA System" is implemented in the feature "BW Modeling Tools Integration with SAP HANA Studio". If no HANA Studio is available, this feature may not be displayed at installation time. Regarding the SAP update site, it is also possible that this feature is not offered depending on the used Eclipse version. Only when the SAP HANA Studio is also available on the SAP update site for the corresponding Eclipse version, the feature "BW Modeling Tools Integration with SAP HANA Studio" can be installed.
However, after activation of the SAP HANA Studio for an Eclipse version, an additional configuration step regarding the BW Modeling Tools by SAP is required. As a result, it can take up to 2 weeks until the feature "BW Modeling Tools Integration with SAP HANA Studio" is offered on the SAP update site when a new SAP HANA Studio version is available.

===================================================

If you want to browse the HANA objects of your system, use the "SAP HANA Administration" perspective to connect to the Database directly.

Hi Roland, thanks a lot for your reply. To my opinion the way of how I do it should also work. And to my opinion it is a technical bug in Eclipse. Of course I would use your proposed way. But I my chosen way is not the right one Eclipse should not offer this option anymore. And actually we do not use HANA studio so far. But I guess we should do so. Regards, Peter

You can install the "HANA Administration" plugin to your Eclipse, so you don't need an additional HANA Studio. This can be done from the repository https://tools.hana.ondemand.com/2024-09
