powerdesigner shortcut entities not showing attributes

Hello,

I have a EDM in Powerdesigner. Within the EDM I have been utilising packages to allow me to build 'Specific Business Area' data models while using the EDM data structure.

This has been working fine, I bring in entities from the EDM into the subpackage which creates shortcuts. Shortcuts appear with attributes and when clicking on the shortcut it takes you to the actual entity so you can navigate the 'True' entity.

However, today when logging on  the appearance has changed. The Entity shortcuts now do not appear with attributes, and when clicking on the shortcuts it brings up the 'shortcut properties' opposed to bringing up the 'nonshort' entity where you can view comments, Descriptions, Business rule ect....

Please see screenshot below of what I am seeing:

Hi,

according to your description I thought that you are using Internal shortcuts (=different packages within the same model). However disappearing of attributes is typical of External shortcuts after closing the model with the original object. So my first guess is that your shortcut is External instead of Internal.

However... External shortcut has a "Shortcut type" property, which should say "External" in this case. And your says "Unknown". So my second guess is that there is something wrong/broken with your shortcut, meaning one of three options here:

  • damaged shortcut
  • damaged/deleted target model object attached to your shortcut
  • model with original object has been moved away from the path stated in the target model object

My guess here is the option two, something with the target model object.

And finally, if you keep your models in repository, you can have different permissions attached to different packages for your PD user. Make sure you are using PD user with at least some permissions to the whole model (= to all packages).

To sum it up, I`d recommend delete and recreate that shortcut to make sure that it is created using correct procedure. It is super fast and easy. In case it won`t work I would examine it deeper.

HTH,

Ondrej Divis
