I have a request to apply retry mechanism in SAP ECC to automatically re-process failed API messages (REST HTTP calls). Today using Custom FMs we build and call the HTTPS link to Middleware API endpoint (not CPI) which in turn passes the data to Target. We primarily use Output types to extract data and pass it in JSON format through the HTTPS call. So, failure messages are not logged at a single place in SAP today and is stored in Output processing logs in transactional level.
I'm thinking of storing the failures with document numbers in a custom table and use a separate program to re-trigger all through Batch runs.
I'm looking for some advice on any better/alternative solutions I can implement considering the fact that the number of failures can be in thousands sometimes when Middleware is down for longer period of time.
