Open Journal Entry App in a New Tab from P&L or G/L Reports

Hello everyone,

In SAP Fiori, when we view Profit & Loss statements or G/L line items and click on a journal entry number, the system opens the related app (e.g., Manage Journal Entries or Journal Entry Analyzer) in the same tab, replacing the current screen.

This is inconvenient for users who need to compare or switch between the report and the journal.

Is there a way to configure SAP Fiori Launchpad to open these apps in a new tab?

Based on what I've found so far, it seems that there is no standard way to open a new tab in SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Edition.

Hello @ParkJongKyu

You're right,in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, standard Fiori behaviour opens linked apps like Manage Journal Entries in the same tab, which can disrupt workflows when users want to keep the source report open.
Can this be changed?

SAP Fiori apps in the Public Cloud are launched within the same shell context. SAP does not offer a built-in option to force links to open in new browser tabs via app settings or Launchpad configuration.
Workarounds:

  • Right-click → “Open link in new tab” (when available).
This works on interactive fields like Journal Entry numbers, especially in browser views.
  • Ctrl+Click or Middle-click
In most modern browsers, Ctrl+Click (or clicking the scroll wheel) on a link opens it in a new tab works for many clickable fields in Fiori apps.
  • Use Side-by-Side apps (if applicable)
Some apps, like Display Line Items in General Ledger, support side panels or popups, but this is limited and not user-configurable.

There’s no standard config to force new-tab behaviour in S/4HANA Public Cloud today. Best you can do is educate users to Ctrl+Click or right-click where possible.
