Hi Javier, I need to migrate the ASE database (On-Prem) to SAP HANA Cloud (Public). I was following the blog written by you. However, I got stuck there. I have tried two methods:

  1. Accessing the ASE database on local machine via VPN. I am able to access the ASE database with the given details IP is 198.162.2.105 and port is 4901 via interactive SQL. However, I was not able to extract the data via SAP Advanced SQL Migration tool as gateway was not open at the server.
  1. Second option is, I have got the direct access to the server where ASE(Sybase) database is present. I have opened the gateway there too. However, gateway host name is 198.162.2.110 /3000. Here, I could successfully open the gateway but not able to reach to the Sybase.

Hi Javier, We are trying to migrate the data from the ERP sybase database  to the SAP HANA cloud. SAP Hana implementation is already done on public cloud and clients want to dump the historical data in a hana cloud database. As client have the SAP HANA public cloud subscription. So, they wanted to migrate the historical data from sybase database to SAP HANA cloud database.

Also, is this conversion happened from ASE database to SAP HANA cloud as well. Please confirm. Thank you

Hi Nami,

I see and understand now. Let me tell you that SAP Advanced SQL Migration tool is not a tool for data migration, the focus of this tool is data model conversion, please check the community I was pointing before, there are 2 documents there (what this tool is and the brief) that describe very well the capabilities of the tool. Those docs there explain that the data migration part is out of the scope of this tool and we only allow some partial support generating script for Hana on-prem using SDA to move the data, for example:

You need to look for another way to move the data, a couple of possibilities can be Hana SDI and also direct export/import to/from text files.

    Regards.

    Javier.

By the way, I think that being an SAP database the source DB you can even use Hana SDA, if I remember this was supported and would be simpler, but you need to check this, I am not an expert in that area.
