I am attempting to create a location dimension on a model against a live connection to HANA. I am using https://www.sapanalytics.cloud/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Creating_Geo_model_from_LiveHana_updated.p... as a reference.
I can see the calculation view of dimension type, the dimension name auto populates, and the identifier for mapping is available. However, the dimension from my calculation view, that is my intended Location Identifier is unavailable. A search does not return any results (unexpected), nor does it accept manual entry (expected). It remains blank regardless of what I try in order to identify the dimension.
I will note that I do not see any dimensions in the model, but I am assuming this is still normal for a model created against a live HANA connection to a calculation view. If this is abnormal please let me know.
I will also note that I can produce a story off the model (without a map). The dimension that I desire to use as the Location Identifier in the Location Dimension is available to consume in the story. I am not sure why it is unavailable to use for the Location Dimension.
Any suggestions on what I may be missing in my calculation view or on the HANA side of things for this to work?
On a related note, the PDF referenced above states that an integer data type is suggested for performance, but is it required? I have tried it both as a nvarchar and as an integer.
Request clarification before answering.
Hi Chris,
Where did you get that link from?
Can you follow the steps here: https://help.sap.com/doc/00f68c2e08b941f081002fd3691d86a7/release/en-US/f7f432923cd9495bb5c98d5cdd66...
and in this note 2395407 - Spatial Delivery Units for SAP Analytics Cloud https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/notes/0002395407?
Thanks,

These instructions are in line with what I have done. I have determined that the required Spatial Reference System was already created. It is owned by another user. Could this be contributing to the issue?
I ran the query SELECT * FROM ST_GEOMETRY_COLUMNS ORDER BY SRS_ID to find the objects using SRS_ID 3857. I was able to clean those up and drop the Spatial Reference System with DROP SPATIAL REFERENCE SYSTEM "WGS 84 / Pseudo-Mercator". I then recreated it according to note 2395407 using the SAC User I intend to use for this. I will reimport the delivery units with this user as well and give it another try. Will provide another update after this.
I am curious if the owner of SRS ID 3857 effects this. If so, then I'll eventually need to determine what owner is best to allow all HANA users access to do their own Geo Dimensions in SAC.
After recreating the Spatial Reference System, reimporting the delivery units, and creating new HANA Views as documented, I am still unable to select a Location Identifier from my HANA View containing the data for the model. The column names in this calculation view and the dimension calculation view are unique.
I can select the dimension view, the location info populates, and I can select the identifier from the location dimension view. No columns are available for the location identifier from the model data view are available.
Is there something special I may be missing that is not in the documentation that I need to do in the model data view to make it visible? I will note that no dimensions appear when creating the model.
Seems there is something specific to the HANA system I am using. I will probably need to end up logging support ticket on this issue. I've pretty much narrowed it down to something about the HANA views, but there is nothing that is obviously sticking out as an issue. Provided your HANA is working normally, the blog John has provided should get you where you need to be when using this. Unfortunately for me, it appears I have something outside the norm going on.
Only difference for us is the HANA is 2.0 SPS04. I think I am going to have to log a support ticket on this one as I've been through all the relevant notes, and read through all the blogs I could find. I have pretty much been able to narrow it down to being something off with the HANA Views, but beyond that There is just nothing obvious I can pinpoint.

Hi Chris,
I don't have an answer for your question why there is no any Location Identifier dimensions listed!
But I would give you some info that we have done exactly same scenario and Location Identifier lists all dimensions available in SAC data model; that seems any dimensions can be selected. All worked perfectly for our system HANA & SAC.
So it sounds definitely something is not aligned in your system.
Good luck!
Tuncay
