Is Java in ASE totally not useable because of a bug in the installjava utility?

I wanted to experiment with Java in ASE (no extra license required for new versions of ASE)

But when I tried to install a .jar file (containing a Java class) into ASE using the installjava utility, I got the error:

The file '*.class' contained in the jar does not represent a valid Java class file.

According to SAP note 3075958, this is a known bug (CR 825178) with no fix currently scheduled in future releases.

Is there any other way to use Java in ASE without using the installjava utility?

Thanks in advance
Ben

According to SAP note 3075958, this has been fixed in ASE 16.1 SP00 PL01 (for CR 825178)

As it turns out, I'm no longer using Java in ASE, but maybe someone else will need this info.
