This seems to be a current SAC bug. I had the same issue and found a workaround for it: I created a new story and added a new input control with the data source I needed in my orginal story. In this new story I could resize the input control. After I changed the sizing I copied it from the new story and pasted it into the original story.
Result: The copied input control in the original story is still resizeable after pasting. Weird, but works for me.
