InfoObject became Inactive in Production

Hi All,

We have one master data infoobject in Production which is being used in many Cubes, Transfer Structures etc.

Recently we removed few attributes from this object and released to Production. But due to some technical fault 'Method Execution' step in transport failed.

When I checked this object again in Production, I found that both 'ACTIVE' and 'INACTIVE' states exist. ACTIVE with older version, and INACTIVE with newer version (i.e. without few attributes).

I checked for Cubes/Transfer structures where this infoObject is being used in Production, they all look ok to me, i.e. active.

My question is.. since now two states exist (Active and Inactive) for this Infoobject, would data loads fail where this infoobejct is being used, till we don't activate the object?

Please let me know.

Regards,

Vikrant.

Hi Vikrant,

The loads for the cubes may not fail in Production but it is not advisable to have your Info-object in inactive state. Transport the latest copy to the Prod box again.

Thanks Dinesh for the reply.

We are working on the issue to resolve this. But till we don't come up with a solution, few scheduled loads would get triggered.

Also, in our company, requests to Production go only once a week. So we'll have to wait till next week to resend the object.

AVR,

During the transports, two steps are followed (in broad level).. first is IMPORT step, where system simply imports the objects in the request in inactive state. In second step i.e. METHOD EXECUTION step, system activates the objects. In our case, second step failed. Thus, If we check the object thru RSD1, we can see two states ACTIVE and INACTIVE. Since ours is a custom object, so no CONTENT version exists.

Hope I'm able to explain the issue.

Thanks for reply, but please do reply if also have something to add.

Regards,

Vikrant.

Hi Vikrant.

I think that data loads will not fail because an active (old) version still exists. But loads will use the old (active) version of the infoobject (with attributes).

There are a lot of OSS notes regarding errors when changing attributes, especially time-dependent and navigational.

I doubt that retransport will help. If you want to use the new (inactive) version of the IO, you need to activate it manually. If you see the ‘Activate’ button, go for it. If not, and probably IO is locked by conversion, you may go through the link where I described the similar situation (the difference that my IO became inactive as a result of business content activation, while your – after transport):

Best regards,

Hi Vikrant,

There doesn't exist 2 states like active and inactive for an infoobject. Else I request you to give me clear scenario. If the Infoobject is inactive the dataload will definitely fail.
