Hi,
I am testing the scenario as following in the sap build process automation.
1. Retrieve the file content of the uploaded attachment file in the DMS.
2. Convert the file content to a specific file type and download in local path.
3. Send the downloaded file to the outlook mail.
I created the automation for the above processes.
I didn't release and deploy the entire project yet.
And now I would like to run in test mode.
If I run by using test mode, the desktop agent will be opened and the package will be loaded to desktop agent.
So, I would like to know that if it will be counted as 1 connection for attended (or) unattended mode and will charge a cost for it?
If not, when the connection will be counted to charge a cost and how many connection will be needed for my scenario?
Could you please explain for me?
Best Regards,
Aye Chan
Request clarification before answering.
Hi Aye Chan,
It will not be counted as an Attended or Unattended mode connection.
You will be charged as an Advanced User.
You can check the costing using the following link: SAP Estimator (just change the commercial model as per your subscription).
For this question, when you deploy your project, schedule it, and run it in unattended mode, it will be charged as an unattended connection.
For attended mode, you will need to add the Automation Launcher to your project and include the particular process in it. After deploying that process, you will see your project in the Desktop Agent under the Project tab. When you run that project, you will be charged as an attended connection.

Hi @manish_09,
Thanks for the information!
I understood that running and testing in test mode will not charge any cost
and only after deploying and running the project in unattended or attended mode will charge cost.
If so, could you please share me the information about how connection count will be calculated too?
for example, we will use attended mode and we have 5 users.
Scenario 1,
In this scenario, we will need to install desktop agent in every user's local machine (eg. PC). Is it correct?
And every user will open the desktop agent and run the same project from their local machine.
For this scenario, will attended mode count be calculated as 5 (or) 1 (or) every time they run the process?
Scenario 2,
we will have virtual machine and desktop agent will be installed in that virtual machine.
Every user will enter to virtual machine and run the process from desktop agent of virtual machine.
For this scenario, how the count will be calculated?
Could you please explain it to me?
Thanks and best regards,
Aye Chan
Hi @ayechan,
For scenario 1 - The attended mode count will be calculated based on the number of unique desktop agents connected to BTP within a month. If five users each run the process from their own machine, it will count as 5 connections.
For scenario 2 - The attended mode count will be calculated based on the single desktop agent on the single virtual machine. Regardless of how many users access the virtual machine and run the project, it will count as 1 connection.
If a user has the "ProcessAutomationDeveloper / Admin" role and logs in, it will count as an Advanced User Connection.
If a user has the "ProcessAutomationParticipant" role and accesses the form or inbox, it will count as a Basic User Connection.
I don't have any link related to how connections are calculated, but you can refer to this pricing page for BPA - https://discovery-center.cloud.sap/serviceCatalog/sap-build-process-automation?region=all&tab=servic...
