How to use a ViewSettingsDialog as a custom multi-faceted filter in the Timeline control?

Good Morning,

currently, I am facing the following challenge: I want to implement a custom filter for the sap.suite.ui.commons.Timeline control. I've created a stackoverflow question for this, too. Any help is warmly welcome.

Short summary:

The official SAP Fiori Design Guidelines explain, that one shall use a sap.m.ViewSettingsDialog for implementing a multi-faceted filter for the Timeline. A possible aggregation could be customFilter, but it needs to have an openBy method, which the ViewSettingsDialog does not provide.

So how do I implement my desired behavior?
