How to read data from different Models in a Story Table

Dear Experts,

I have the below scenario where I need to bring data from different Models. "Actuals" should be read from Analytical Model (Cost Centre Actuals) and "Plan" should be read from a Planning Model (OPEX Planning). However, when I try to Blend these two models I get the message: Blending is not supported for this model.

Can any one suggest me, if you have faced a similar situation and have overcome it?

Thanks in anticipation

Currently there are few restriction w.r.t Blending (various reason). If your planning model has Account dimension with multiple hierarchy, blending is not possible. You can try by keep a single hierarchy in Account dimension Alternatively you should load the Actual data currently flowing to Analytical model to Planning model under version Actuals.

Hope this helps

Hi Nikhil,

Thanks for your quick response. My planning model has a Single hierarchy (Parent-Child Hierarchy). However, after reading your response, I have created copies of my Planning and Analytical Models and removed Account Dimension, and am now able to use the Blending feature. Looks like models using Account dimensions, are not supported for blending. Can you please suggest me a workaround? I think we might have to create a Generic Dimension for the Account and use it to read GL Account. Can you please suggest me a workaround, other than loading Actual data into the Planning Model (as my organization wants to keep them separate?

Thanks once again for the insight.

Regards

Malya

There is no easy answer for this and you may have to evaluate your options. You have 2 possible solutions

  • Enrich your planning Model with the Actual Data (you seem to be reluctant on this)
  • Converting the Account dimension to a generic dimension. Please Note you lose out on all the flexibility of Account formulas, Account type etc.

You have not shared the details of the 2 model types (Classic Account/Measure based, Live/Import) but I am guessing that the planning model is of the type new measure based model with Account dimension.

You can refer to the below note which highlights the restrictions pertaining to Blending and also go through the restrictions for New Model (measure based )
