How to decide the Update methods in LO extractions

Hi all.

I have a typical question here. I have seen a lot of posts in SCN but i couldnt find a single post which answers the question

Question : "How do you decide which update method out of Direct Delta, Queued Delta, Unserialized V3 Update suits the purpose?"

For example I just want to know how do we calibrate that the data source may have more than 10,000 records. There has to be iteration measure other than just looking at the Info package for the Full update and then decide.

Regards,

Balasubramanian.

Hi Bala,

Keep all the LO Datasources under Queued Delta   and 2LIS_03(Inventory) under unserialized V3 Update.

Hi Bala,

Direct:- When its a Small Organization and the records are less , we go for Direct Update.

Direct and Queued Update :-

If the records are less than 10K for a DS ,then its recommended for Direct Update and if the records increase over a period of time then we can migrate Queued.

Queued and V3 Update:-

V3 is for  Inventory Scenarios where the Data may come in any sequence and it really does not matter as at the End of the Day ..Stock = Input - output (Noncumulative).

This is also the reason why SAP has recommended these Updates based on the Scenarios.

Hi Bala.

SAP standard always prefers Queue delta method.

About data volume is depend on client business. once you check with client business, you will know the data volume(transactions) size for the day.

about V3 methods, please google them and help yourself.

Thanks

Hi Raman,

Appreciate the Response.

I also accept that Standard Procedure is to go for Queued Delta method. But, There has to be a meaning for the Other two Options being provided by SAP.

Until we know which one is optimized for the particular task we cannot presume to know which is best.

I also have a doubt that, Lets say we have selected Direct Update as per the client Requirement for a very low number of Records as of now , After 1 Year if at all the Transactions Increase beyond what SAP has recommended for Direct Update, Then how will we change it further ? should we again have to remove all the records, change the Update Method and again do the Extractions ?

Balu.

Hi Bala,

Serialized delta - i think you can understand it easily. this method process the first created and saved records in synchronization method. you might be aware about dis-advantage as well.

Direct method - As you already stated that as its used for limited delta records processing. if required to change as you said then can change it in production directly. to change V3 method. first lock users and load all delta data into bw until get 0 data at RSA7.

once we are clear no delta data in queues, then later change V3 method and run V3 job.

unlock users and continue it.

Thanks
